LEARNING SUPPORT MANAGER



(Permanent, Full-time, Throughout the year)





An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as Learning Support Manager. We are looking for an experienced SEND professional to work with the Director of Student Services and Safeguarding to develop the provision of learning support across the college. The role will involve leading and quality assuring the implementation of support for students with SEND.





The successful candidate will have extensive experience in managing learning support, ensuring that statutory duties are fulfilled, and funding claims are managed effectively. They will be student focussed with the ability to build strong working relationships with families and other professionals, both within the college and externally.





Salary: £47,948 – £52,868 per annum



+ SENDCo Qualification Allowance of £5,009

Main Activities






  1. Lead and manage a team of SEND professionals, ensuring that the needs of all students with SEND are met, including those with EHCPs, adults and those on HE courses.

  2. Overseeing the budgets for additional learning support and ensure that details for the funding claims are given to MIS, in accordance with local authority agreements to commission places for learners with high needs.

  3. Oversee the deployment of ALS to effectively monitor, track and record ALS in line with EFA, SFA, LA and Ofsted requirement. Put in place processes to monitor and review learner progress for those in receipt of ALS to maximise learner success and progression.

  4. Managing cross-college support for students identified with learning difficulties and disability to ensure that achievement rates are at least equal to those who do not require additional learning support.

  5. Ensure that Exam Access Arrangements are applied for, in accordance with JCQ and other exam board regulations.

  6. Ensure that statutory duties are met, such as timely consultation responses and annual review meetings, to the satisfaction of local authorities.

  7. Working with the SEND Curriculum Lead, ensure that effective transition arrangements are in place for new and prospective students, and that curriculum teams have the necessary support information in a timely manner.

  8. Ensure that SEND students have the necessary resources to make informed choices about their next steps after college and support with this transition.

  9. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation, the Equality Act and OFSTED frameworks and how these impact on the college and its partners.

  10. Ensure that EHCP outcomes are monitored and met, with short term targets in place that demonstrate progress towards the outcomes.

  11. Quality assure the support that is provided to students with SEND, supporting Learning Support staff who underperform to improve their practice.

  12. Maintain accurate records on ProSolution of students with SEND, High Needs and LLDD.

  13. Work with the Director of Student Services and Safeguarding, the Finance Director and MIS to ensure that all funding claims have the correct information for audit.

  14. Ensure that risk assessments and support plans are in place in a timely manner for students with EHCPs and work with the Director of Estates to ensure that PEEPs are completed for those that need them.

  15. Contribute to departmental objectives and targets and provide relevant analysis of data for SAR / QIP updates.

  16. Deliver training as required.

  17. Support the safeguarding of SEND students.

  18. Take personal responsibility for supporting, promoting and following all College policies in relation to health and safety, safeguarding, equality and diversity and data protection within the scope of the post.



The postholder can be required to carry out any other duties consistent with the grade of post, at any site on which the College may operate.
