GI Group are now seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to our Public Sector client based in Worksop. The Learning Support Assistant will provide support for students with special educational needs. They will ensure that the student can integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by the other students in the class and make progress.
Main Duties of the Learning Support Assistant:

  • To provide tailored in-class support to groups or individual learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, as recommended in the learners individual ALS Plan and/or EHCP, and as directed by the lecturer within the teaching and learning environment.
  • In order to support learners effectively, the Learning Support Assistant may need to:
  • Interpret instructions/clarify information
  • Offer support and positive encouragement, whilst maintaining and promoting learner independence.
  • Provide exam access arrangements during examinations as deployed by LSA Coordinator and as agreed and confirmed by the exams team and respective awarding body.
  • Complete LSA reviews when required
  • Support learners with the use of assistive technology
  • Work with ALS and curriculum colleagues to develop and maintain resources where appropriate
  • Refer concerns in terms of progress, personal well-being or concerns to the relevant staff members
  • To attend and participate in meetings as required; i.e. curriculum team meetings, EHCP reviews, learners progress review meetings/1:1 tutorials, where appropriate
  • To update and maintain learners individual learning plans on ProMonitor under direction from LSA Co-Ordinator and ALS Team Leader
  • To support and supervise learners during unstructured periods i.e. lunchtime breaks, before and after the College day
  • Undertake Meet and Greet and travel training duties as and when required
  • To carry out invigilation duties during examinations when required
  • To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students having due regard to the College's Child & Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy.
  • Offer practical assistance to learners who may have a physical disability (this may include personal care, toileting etc)

Role Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people in a support role
  • Experience working within an educational setting
  • Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and team working
  • Ability to work in an organised and methodical manner
