The Glasgow Academy is looking for a Learning Assistant and Minibus Driver for its site atKelvinbridge commencing August 2023. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic,motivated and reliable individual, able to work as part of a competent, confidentworkforce capable of delivering services in a constantly changing and evolvingeducational environment with a commitment to developing a culture of learning within thePrep School. Candidates should also have a D1 qualification on their driver’s license or bewilling to take this qualification (at the school’s expense) prior to employmentcommencing.
The School
The Glasgow Academy is an ambitious, warm, welcoming, thriving and forward-thinkingfully co-educational HMC independent day school of around 1600 pupils aged 3-18. It ishighly popular, growing in a planned way over the last 14 years. It consists of the SeniorSchool, of just over 760 girls and boys of 11-18 years of age, and a Preparatory School(which has three sites and around 800 children, counting all those in Nursery/Kindergarten). The school gains excellent SQA exam results, and raising academic resultsfurther is the central target of its School Improvement Plan. Our Higher pass rate of 99%was the best amongst West Scotland independent schools in 2019 and a record 48Academy pupils achieved 5 or more A grades. Beyond academic achievement we want allof our pupils to thrive and contribute to a rapidly developing modern world and to do thatwe must ensure they leave The Academy with a socially conscious, innovative and globaloutlook. Our aim is that we provide our pupils with rich learning experiences that bestprepare them for life after The Academy also places value on the importance ofsustainable education for future generations. Through further development of our local,national and global partnerships our aim is that we have a greater impact on lives withinand out with The Academy community.
The school's latest £15 million new building won Best Building in Scotland 2016, the UK'srichest architectural prize. The school has invested around £27 million in its facilities overthe last decade or so and continues to invest heavily and strategically.
The Role
Duties are varied but will include driving a minibus with pupils to/from Kilmalcolm eachday and supporting pupils’ learning both in and out of the classroom to complement thework set by the teachers, playground supervision, preparing teaching materials andhelping to create and maintain a stimulating and varied visual environment within theschool.
Duties and Responsibilities
To help teachers raise attainment, ensuring every pupil reaches their full potential.
To support all staff and engage in good team working.
To be involved in the self-evaluation and development process.
To take part in the organisation of resources and completion of inventories.
To ensure that everyone is treated as an individual, with respect and full consideration,in line with the school's Equal Opportunity Policy.
To provide encouragement and praise, giving help when needed and showingappreciation of children's efforts.
To attend agreed out-of-working-hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings,parents' evenings, Summer Fayre etc.
To be flexible within the working practices of the school and being prepared to helpwhen needed.
To work alongside colleagues to ensure that The Glasgow Academy ethos is fulfilled.
To respect the confidentiality of information received.
To be aware of and to comply with The Glasgow Academy Child Protection Policy,Confidentiality Procedures and all other school policies.
You will be required to obtain a First Aid at Work Certificate.
To fulfil any other reasonable duty for The Glasgow Academy.
To drive a school minibus with pupils to/from Kilmacolm daily.
A driver's license with a D1 qualification or a willingness to gain this (at the school’sexpense) prior to employment commencing.

The Appointment
Hours of Work
The post is term-time, Monday to Friday.
The hours of work are 7.45am until 5.15pm.
Pick up pupils in Kilmacolm around 7.45am and arrive at The Academy 8.30am.
Learning Assistant role until 3.50pm, with a half-hour lunch and 2 x 15-minute breaks.
Depart from The Academy at 4pm to drive pupils in minibus back to Kilmacolm.
Remuneration
Salary by agreement. Payment will be made in 12 equal monthly instalments.
