PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Casting "Make Accounting Fun Again," a mockumentary-style web series.Synopsis: Owner of a successful accountancy firm. Numbers savvy, but not so much with words. As the only child of an immigrant entrepreneurial father, the only way Neil knows how to get and keep attention is through profits. He was always alone at school except when he was selling chocolates and sweets during lunchtime. He quickly realised that money and success were the only ways to keep people around him. So when his wife of 25 years announces that she is bored of their life and is leaving him, especially during one of most profitable years, he is shocked. And he is especially hurt when he finds out she is dating his flashy film editor client. For the first time, Neil comes out of the world of numbers and tries to win her back. With the help of his run-of-the-mill accountants (or so you think), he tries to win the highest accounting award there is using unique and often disastrous methods to show her accounting can be fun too.

SALINA RODRIGUEZ - Mid 30s, Spanish origin Lead. 25+
Spanish born but a North London Girl. Senior accountant. The one thing she fears the most is being called stupid and so she works hard to make sure she is never wrong. You could say she is highly strung but anyone who really knows her knows she has a heart of gold. Describes herself a “boy’s girl” because she has always just gotten on better with them but the truth is she’s intimidated by girls. She is always in hoodies because she secretly believes that people might think she’s not very smart or judge her based on her appearance if she leans into style. She holds on to her masculine feminism with an iron tight fist and will bat away any suggestions of needing a man or being a traditional woman but secretly it is the very thing she wants. The truth is she has spent so long being self-sufficient and independent, she is worried about what falling in love might do to her. She is insecure about how inexperienced she is and so never makes an effort to put herself out there - not that she would ever admit that.
APPLE KRATER - Early 20s, English Lead. Female. 18+
Painfully Gen Z. Intern at the firm. Home-schooled by a perfectionist mother (who was a school teacher) where everything was optimised and run extremely efficiently. Was named Apple because she doesn’t fall far from the tree. Incredibly intelligent and unwilling to adhere to social norms in the workplace. Unlike Salina, she is never afraid to say exactly how she feels and doesn’t worry that others might judge her. She cares deeply about world issues, feels the pressure of the world on her small shoulders and cares way too much about things out of her control.
ZACK KASI - Mid 20s Lead. 18+
He’s the intern at the firm. A bit of a wanker, cuts corners but fun to be around. Zack had applied for the role when he saw that at they were looking for someone from a ‘low socioeconomic background or someone that didn’t go to uni.’ Neither apply to him but everybody lies a little on their CV, right? So here he is, comfortable in this full-time internship that gives him enough time in the day to work on his own business plans. However, it’s dawned on him that he only has a few weeks left until his internship ends and there’s a permanent job role opening that he has had his eye on. But then Apple joins and is a threat to that plan. She’is clearly brilliant and an obvious pick for that role. The competition is on (not that she’s aware of it) and he isn’t afraid to play dirty.
SIR - late 50s Lead. Male. 50+
Many decades before he became a senior accountant at the firm, Sir was a child being raised “correctly” by two very strict parents. Their stringent disciplinary methods is the reason he is a no-nonsense individual today. He is usually the first one in at work and the last one to leave. On his morning commutes he completes the newpaper Sudoku every day without fail. On the surface he is a very mature and respectable person. Beneath that veneer there’s something he has tried to keep hidden from his colleagues but it gets increasingly difficult every day… He isn't as squeaky clean as he’d like to make it seem. Years of rule abidance has created an urge for him to misbehave and as time goes by his risks get more reckless.
SIR’S ASSISTANT - late 20s Lead. Male. 18+
Incredibly smart. Sir’s assistant has been Sir’s loyal assistant for many years. In many ways he is the perfect assistant. Never has an issue. Does jobs in seconds and is incredibly on the ball. When Sir isn’t the first one in the office it’s because his assistant is already there. The only reason he doesn’t stay in the office later than Sir is because Sir dismisses him. He would if he could! Sir always hands his assistant the newspaper knowing that he loves to complete the crossword. They have a relationship based on mutual understanding. The only person he can speak to without crippling social anxiety is Sir. No one even knows his name in the office. But he has vowed to get over it this year.Is the running joke that they think he is the only child but he is 1 of a dozen lol
MALIKA PATEL - late 40s, Indian origin Supporting. Female. 33+
When you meet her, you sense that she is a woman highly strung, a little angry and intimidating. You might even feel sorry for the person she’s married to. But this is a person who had never really lived the life she wanted to. After her mother dashed her dreams of being a TV presenter and traveling the world to get married to the nice, stable Indian boy next door, she tried to make it work. But Neil seemed more interested in his accounts than her. After 2 kids and a whole 25 years of being a SATM, something snapped in her. When a chance encounter with a Neil’s client turns a little flirtatious, she jumps at the chance for some change, for someone to have noticed her more than a mother and a wife. She didn’t even expect Neil to notice her absence given the lack of attention from him over the years.
NEIL JR PATEL a.k.a NJ - Early 20s, Indian origin Supporting. Male. 18+
Content creator at the firm. NJ has no interest in his father’s business. But when his mother surprises everyone with the divorce, he decides to help his dad win her back. They don’t really have much in common but he knows how much it would mean to his dad. Plus upon meeting Apple, he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t interested in her. Though he’s been holding himself back from relationships, especially since his parents’ separation. NJ feels like his love life is doomed to be cursed and is a serial dater.
CRYSTAL EXPERT AND MINDFULNESS GUIDE - any Supporting. 18+
Hired by Neil to help the team destress and relax. She is eccentric and doesn’t like wearing the same two colours on any day. If you see a shade of blue on her that’s only shade of blue you will see on her. She tapes all her crystals to her body underneath her clothes because you never know which power you might require that day.
LEE GREEN a.k.a BigGreenDollar on YoutTube - Mid 30s, any race Supporting. 25+
Total wanker. A client of the firm. He is nearly broke and the only income stream he has comes from his YouTube channel where he teaches people to be millionaires like him. He lives with his parents, though his “fans” think he lives in Dubai and what little money he makes he donates to “charities” (set up by him) to reduce his tax contributions. Salina falls for his lies but Apple is more clear-eyed and tries to save her from an inevitable heartbreak.
ACCOUNTANCY AWARD INSPECTOR - any Lead. 18+
Your average Joe/Jane. Sent by the awarding body to inspect the firm as part of their award nomination and judging process. He unfortunately arrives at the firm on the very day everything starts to fall apart…
