Job title: Lead Joining Engineer (Joining & Welding Engineer positions also available)

Contract length: 3-6 months

Location: Solihull, West Midlands (full time on site)

Pay rate: Circa �(Apply online only) per day

Role Summary

Working within a team of joining engineers, reporting into the Lead joining engineer, you'll be providing support and assistance with the introduction of our new Bodyshop at our Solihull or Halewood Production Plants. You will support SE and launch activities within the team.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage Vendors and coupon test facilities.
  • Resolve Process designer issues for joining technologies to protect the customer.
  • Advise PD of any issues and coordinate with CAE for any joint strength data.
  • Optimise process designer for all relevant joining technologies (adhesive, rivet, EJOT/EJOWELD/RSW and Fusion joining process) allocations.
  • Ensure documentation required is available and Process Designer and is updated with the latest parameters and feedback from technology testing / reviews. Raising / tracking and liaising with PD with regards to deviations.
  • Drive Vendors to achieve weld expulsion, adhesive bead optimisation and adhesive bead expulsion levels that do not contaminate tooling and joining equipment.
  • Support JRM activities and ensure administration tasks have been completed.
  • Process Designer core skills training will be provided by JLR if required.

Key Skills/Experience Required:

  • Ability to transfer your knowledge base in an Engineering/Analytical industry and transfer best practices into the client's automotive environment.
  • Proficient with Excel, Pivot tables and understand how to progress interrogation techniques of data is a requirement of the role.
  • Ideally but not limited to the ability to advise on best practices on Resistance Spot welding with Bosch Adaptive welding with Aro Servo weld guns, Self-Pierce Riveting with Tucker guns, Adhesive SCA withstructural as well as gap and Hem fill applied applications.
  • Understand how to optimise the process and advise Product Engineering on changes to ensure optimum joint conditions are achieved for each joining technology.
  • Hands-on equipment interrogation and parameter modification will also be required.
  • You'll be self-motivated but also a good team player with the ability to listen effectively to others, portraying an enthusiastic attitude and demonstrating passion and enthusiasm to the rest of the team.
  • The ability to take the lead is essential, as is the ability to achieve results by meeting deliverables and commitments.
  • You'll be confident when communicating with people in the project and at all levels of the company with good written and spoken communication skills.
  • You'll be a proactive problem solver with excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • You will need to be persistent and able to deal with challenging scenarios working with multiple 3rd parties with the ability to work in an ever-changing environment where deadlines / priorities change, and you need to have the ability to be flexible to meet the business' needs.
  • Flexibility to travel
