I'm working with an exciting scale-up within the FinTech space who are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to join their ever growing team. Having raised hundreds of millions - It's an exciting time....
They are seeking an experienced Lead Data Scientist to join. This position entails a senior role with a scope that involves exerting influence at the organisational level. It will require assuming responsibilities for technical leadership and mentoring of mid and senior-level data scientists, alongside ownership of objectives and active contribution to the overarching team strategy. The chosen candidate will integrate into the broader data team and be integrated within our risk management team.
Responsibilities:
Fosters collaborative work culture with psychological safety at its heart.
Manage through clear objectives and providing appropriate context (rather than task-based approach).
A strong history and emphasis on delivering measured value.
Has already had a strong IC career as a data scientist.
Experienced with modern cloud deployment and pipelines (CI/CD, cloud-based model training, archiving, and serving).
Aware of AI safety considerations and appropriate mitigations (e.g. bias detection, PII rules and management).
Comfortable getting “good enough” into production fast (then moving to continuous, data driven improvement).
Champions code quality and simplicity.
Wants to keep their technical skills sharp by getting involved.
Comfortable “telescoping” (seeing the big picture with only the important points, then diving into details of hot spots in the delivery pipeline).
A tendency to get quickly to the heart of the matter when problem solving.
Succinct communication style (concise, details tailored to what people need to know).
Relishes change – nothing in nature stands still.
Have a broad understanding of how to utilise models to optimise business logic for profitability, loss rates, approval rate, fraud rates and other KPIs.
Previous credit risk management experience highly valued but not essential.
Technical Capabilities:
Strong proficiency using Python and attached libraries.
Experience in data manipulation and analysis using relevant libraries and frameworks.
Solid understanding of statistical concepts and machine learning techniques.
Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques to effectively communicate insights.
Experience with database querying languages (e.g., SQL) and working with large datasets.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience working with the AWS + Services (Sagemaker or equivalent)
Desirables:
A financial technology background
Experience with SQS or Kafka
Prior work with CI/CD tools
Prior work with a transformation tool
