Laboratory Technician
£30,400.50 rising to £38,902.76 after probation
Based in the Laboratory at the Pembroke Refinery you will be trained up to complete various product and sample testing inspecific areas of the Laboratory. You will be part of a team of 28 providing an analytic and test facility for refinery products andoperation emissions.
Key Responsibilities: Ensuring incident free operations through the effective use of the Loss Prevention System (LPS)
Prioritisation of daily testing including validation, environment samples, batch, routine, test runs and external samples
Timely accurate testing of samples and self checking of results for reasonableness
Ability to provide routine equipment maintenance and repair
Monitoring stock levels of laboratory supplies to ensure materials are noted for reorder to avoid timeout and delay in testing
Completing tasks as assigned in the laboratory schedules including Safety and Quality Audits, SOP Reviews and Correlation
Programs and where necessary represent the laboratory and provide technical input for both internal and external project work
Ensuring that the work environment is left in a safe and suitable condition at the end of the shift

Candidate Requirements A tertiary degree / diploma in Science is essential for this role, or at least 5 years previous experience in a chemical / petro-chemlaboratory.
Also desirable would be : An understanding of good laboratory practice, including previous petrochemical laboratory experience
A good understanding of the petrochemical refining processes
Strong technical / professional problem solving skills and good communications skills (written and verbal)
Strong personal drive for development and the ability to self-manage personal workload
Ability to represent the laboratory on both internal and external working groups
An understanding of ISO 17025

*** Hours Per week: Your normal hours of work will be 37.5hrs/wk. However, in line with thePembroke Plant operates a nine-day fortnight. Participation is at the discretion of your Dept Head, and voluntary, as it is recognised that consolidated hours may not suit every workers needs. If you choose to participate, the pattern of working hours, inc. 30-minute lunch break is:
Week 1 - Mon Thurs, 8.5hrs/day 07:30 to 16:30, Friday, 7hrs 07:30 to 15:00Week 2 - Mon Thurs, 8.5hrs/day 07:30 to 16:30, Friday, Tenth Day Off (TDO)
Given the current business challenges we need to be able to move laboratory technicians between days and shifts as their experience increases so we maintain the right balance of skills and experience across the whole laboratory team. This will also help to support everyones continuing professional development as well as giving us the flexibility to adapt swiftly to changing businessneeds.
