The Role:
The Laboratory & Facilities technician will play a crucial role in providing support to the scientific users on site. Day to day tasks will range from the preparation of lab media and buffers for use in the laboratories to the management of deliveries of stock material to site. This is a varied role which will suit an individual who is interested in developing a longer-term career in Laboratory and Operations management.
Responsibilities:
Preparing media and buffers for use in scientific laboratories
Monitoring media stocks and the stock levels of laboratory consumables to ensure adequate supplies are available and replenished as required.
Aseptic dispensing of buffers and media
Carrying out sterilisation using autoclave
General laboratory housekeeping such as collection, washing and restocking of glassware and plasticware from various laboratories, waste management and equipment maintenance.
Organising the laboratory coat collection for laundry and the distribution of clean laboratory coats.
Receiving, inspecting, and recording deliveries. Checking quality and quantity delivered matches the delivery note and purchase order, returning defective stock to suppliers, ensuring goods are stored correctly
Other duties as assigned by line manager
Supporting the Operations team with general housekeeping of our Laboratory facilities
Supporting the lab Manager with the management of Laboratory equipment performance by arranging equipment servicing and repairs
Essential:
A high level of attention to detail and ability to follow protocols is required, as well as relevant experience in operational support in a laboratory setting. Training will be provided for specific duties, but applicants should have a good basic grounding in laboratory operations.
Good written and oral communication skills.
