Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.Permanent, Full-time80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE)An opportunity has arisen within Te Wāhanga Hauora Māori (The Māori Health Service) at Te Whatu Ora ki Te Matau a Māui, Hawke’s Bay as a Kaitakawaenga (Māori Cultural Advisor) working within the Child, Adolescent and Family Services (CAFS) with the Mental Health Service.The successful applicant will be required to work Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.30pm providing the following:Supporting an effective continuum of care for those with moderate to severe mental health and addiction needs.Development and maintenance of relationships, credibility and the ability to identify the appropriate care needed.Being able to negotiate a robust set of agreed arrangements with whānau to enhance health literacy for them to better understand the illness / condition(s) / diagnosis of the tangata whaiora (patient).Provide support for clinical staff from a cultural perspective when tangata whaiora present and support the tangata whaiora to enable them and their whānau to understand and make sense of the clinical process / pathway.The role will give the successful applicant the ability to work within a Māori kaupapa focussed service providing unfaltering support for tangata whaiora.There will be a need to work independently as well as within a team, have excellent communication skills, have good time management, have a reasonably good knowledge base in health and have a good understanding of the local Māori community.A registered Social Worker who has worked within a hospital setting would be a great advantage.A reasonably good knowledge of te reo Maori and Kahungunutanga would also be an advantage.Located in the sunny Hawkes Bay we live in pure paradise.
