Our client are a well established and leading player in the design, supply and installation of concrete products to the construction industry. They are now looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be a junior/assistant QS who's seeking career progression, and to develop their knowledge and experience in the industry, or someone who's just completed their studies and are looking to begin their career.

Based at our office and reporting to the Directors, you will support operational colleagues on commercial matters following receipt of secured contracts. The candidate, once appropriately trained, will be responsible for reviewing and negotiating terms & conditions of sub-contract orders, compiling payment applications, resolving payless notices and providing monthly forecasts and profit analysis.

They will be self-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines, but also be a good team player and have the ability to maintain good working relationships with both clients and supply chain partners. The ideal candidate will be from a sub-contractor background and have experience in dealing with main contractors. They will also have high level communication skills, both verbally and technically. A good IT knowledge will also be required to compliment this position; technical pre-cast knowledge would be advantageous.

The Role

  • Reviewing and negotiating terms & conditions of sub-contract orders
  • Dispute resolution and resolving payless notices
  • Raising valuations of works carried out
  • Assessing client payments and agreeing final accounts
  • Resolving supply chain accounts
  • Project and monthly/quarterly profit analysis

Profile

Ideally the successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience, however additional education will be provided for the right candidate:

  • A minimum HND in Construction or similar course. A degree in quantity surveying would be beneficial but is not essential as further training may be offered.
  • Experience in a commercial role for a Sub-Contractor
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Understanding of JCT conditions of contract
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Effective customer-facing skills and able to self-manage workloads
  • An understanding of pre-cast concrete products would be advantageous but not necessary
