Find your future with us.Boeing Defence UK is looking for a Junior IT Support Engineer to support the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Gladiator Core Systems and Services (GCSS). Gladiator is a world-leading synthetic training system operating from a purpose-built facility in Waddington. Gladiator links synthetic training devices (simulators) to a central hub, enabling operators across the Land, Maritime and Air environments to train safely and securely together. This is an on-site role, based in Waddington.The System Support Team directly supports users operating the Gladiator system, and are responsible for investigating, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise. The ideal candidate will be someone who is looking to develop their IT skills; possibly someone who has recently finished an IT Apprenticeship, studied an IT related college course/degree or has relevant IT work experience.This role predominantly deals with the investigation and resolution of issues related to software and systems that are used to provide the Gladiator capability. As such, we are open to all abilities with previous IT experience. Many of the software applications used are bespoke commercial off the shelf (COTS) software and are heavily modified to meet the needs of the capability, therefore meeting all the skills and experience outlined is flexible.Effective communication skills, a good attitude, and the ability to work well as part of a team is important for this role. With the right attitude and willingness to learn, we can train and develop the candidate appropriately. An interest in aviation or flight simulation would also be advantageous.Tech ResponsibilitiesInitialises the system in the required configuration, perform system monitoring, rapid fault diagnosis in accordance with SLA's, implement hotfix and workarounds to ensure successful training outcomes and maximum system uptime.Man the helpdesk on a rotating half day basis acting as a single point of contact for end users requiring high priority, immediate technical support.Post operation tasks and system shutdown. Restoring environments to a predefined configuration in preparation for the next operational requirement of the capability.Performs corrective actions, preventive maintenance, authorised modifications on hardware and software to resolve technical, design, quality, operational and other issues with the system.Interrogate system, software and event logs, dump files and console outputs to identify and resolve bugs or faults existing within the software/system.Performs deployment of configuration and software using a variety of deployment and source control tools (PDQ, Git/Bitbucket, Batch/Python/PowerShell scripts).Routine maintenance of hardware and software.Provides daily support for the Gladiator system to include liaison with MoD and civilian instructional staff in exercise planning and preparation, communicating system limitations.Work closely with third-party suppliers to resolve any issues or faults. As well as wider Boeing teams i.e. integration, testing and development.Maintain system documentation, follow approved processes and update records where necessary.Regularly update and maintain accurate notes within Jira tickets capturing any work completed on a ticket.Ensure compliance with data and physical security instructions.Support major system modification or fault rectification, which may require manual handling and limited working at heights.Preferred Skills, Qualifications and ExperienceWorking knowledge of Software/Application support.Working knowledge of RHEL and containerized applications (Docker).Ability to develop innovative engineering solutions, independently and collectively.Troubleshoot and understand large, complex systems.Batch, Scripting & Process development.Working knowledge of deployment, management and configuration of software systems.Working knowledge of source control (git/bitbucket).Working knowledge of networking routing and protocols.Curiosity of understanding how HLA/DIS is used within simulation.What Boeing offers you:The Boeing benefits package goes above and beyond, focusing on your physical, emotional, financial and social well-being. The working week operates within the following window: Monday - Friday 0730-#####.Shift patterns are one week of earlies followed by one week of lates on a rotating basis. Early shifts operate##########00 with 1 hour lunch break.
