Role Purpose
The IT Operations Team is responsible for ensuring that IT infrastructure and business services are secure, fit-for-purpose, operational, reliable, resilient, and cost-effective. The IT Systems Administrator will be part of that team, providing high-level technical support across multiple systems and applications, as well as supporting projects to improve IT services.
Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, you will be an escalation point for complex technical incidents from the 1st and 2nd line support teams. You will be expected to take ownership and ensure incidents are resolved in a timely manner, providing feedback to further develop IT colleagues as required. You will act as a point of contact when dealing with third-party suppliers, and be expected to log tickets and follow up through to resolution.
The IT Systems Administrator will be involved in IT projects, providing input into planning, as well as the delivery and documentation of new systems. Working closely alongside colleagues from both within the team and the wider IT department.
Key Accountabilities
Ensure IT infrastructure is operational to support business needs.
Proactively manage IT infrastructure both on-premises and in the cloud.
Monitor the health and performance of IT systems.
Provide third line technical support on IT infrastructure both on-premises, in the datacentre, and in the cloud as appropriate.
Take ownership of incidents and problems, identifying root cause and implementing resolutions.
Respond quickly to P1 and high-priority security incidents.
Track asset lifecycle and play an active role in the replacement, retirement, and decommissioning of assets.
Monitor software versions, plan and implement system upgrades or patches as required.
Act with a security-first mindset and follow best practices to maintain the integrity of IT infrastructure.
Manage appropriate technologies to protect systems from all (internal and external) malicious activities.
Highlight security, performance, or cost-reducing actions to the IT Operations Manager as appropriate.
Assist in planning Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity playbooks, carry out testing of processes, and take action on any remedial work required.
Assist in planning and implementation of IT projects.
Keep relevant personnel informed of progress on active projects, highlighting significant variations between expected and actual delivery dates in a timely manner for a proactive response.
Undertake any other task as required from time to time, including administrative or sales-related duties.
Work to best practices and ensure system documentation is updated and accurate.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures to protect information.
Essential:
Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
Proven experience as a System Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar role at a minimum of 2nd line level.
MS Azure knowledge, with experience of:
Entra ID Management
Azure storage accounts
Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
Azure Virtual machine management
MS Exchange Management (Ideally Exchange Online)
On-premises infrastructure experience including:
Building and configuration of MS Windows Servers
Active Directory domain knowledge
Hypervisor virtualisation management (ideally VMWare)
Backup solutions (ideally VEEAM)
Desirable:
Knowledge and experience of:
MS 365 applications e.g. SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, etc.
SSL certificate management
Vulnerability management
SIEM experience (Ideally MS Sentinel)
Infrastructure As Code (Ideally Terraform and Ansible)
Powershell
SQL
Networking experience (Cisco switch, firewalls)
Cisco Umbrella
Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure support
Netapp Support
Knowledge of and/or certification in ITIL 4
Relevant knowledge of current and emerging technologies
