Octopus Energy Generation is launching a climate tech, institutional capital ventures strategy, and we are looking for a mission led, driving force to join us. The individual will be pivotal in shaping the strategy and bringing a new growth stage venture fund to market. We are open to background preferring to back self-starters who love the mission and will be committed to making it happen. The individual will likely have a track record of supporting IP rich / deep tech or climate tech ventures at the Series B stage onwards.Essential Job FunctionsYou'll divide your time into:Fund ideation and set-upContribute to developing the fund thesisParticipate in fund economic modelling and portfolio constructionCoordinate fund set up with service providersPrepare fund materials for LP due diligenceSupport with fund marketing and LP discussionsFinding new opportunitiesAttend and speak at industry eventsBuild and maintain a deep network in the UK and European VC ecosystemLead deep dives, industry analysis and market mapping of relevant sectorsTrack and chase companies, you are excited aboutKeep up to date and have a genuine interest in the developments and trends in climate tech and the VC and Growth investing landscapeLeading of new investmentsTake responsibility of all aspects of the deal processLead due diligence, manage advisors, conduct site visits and expert interviews, assess market opportunity and sensitize financial forecastsRecommend and own valuation and ideal round structurePrepare internal briefing and IC documentsPresent and sell new opportunities internally to the investment and the partnersPortfolio / board work and fundTake on board positionsFind and recruit portfolio NEDsDraw on own and team network to support portfolio companies where possibleBuild close working relationships with founding teams of portfolio companiesManage complex situations within the portfolio incl. performance management, follow-on rounds and exitsAct as an Octopus Energy Generation representative in front of multiple stakeholders including investors in our funds, entrepreneurs, other VCs and corporatesCoaching more junior team members and leading the growth origination effortsCoach and mentor junior team members to help complement their investor skill set and make high quality investment recommendationsLead the venture team’s concerted origination efforts, chair WIP meetings, own and track the team’s opportunity generation effortsSupport the team lead in defining the team’s strategy driving growthBe proactive in suggesting and pursuing opportunities to grow Octopus Energy Ventures’ growth investment practiceWe know you have what it takes, if you haveExtensive relevant professional experience; likely but not necessarily includingOriginating, leading and executing investments in climate/ deep tech VC or growth capital;Being a key contributor in making and executing on investment recommendations;Working with and monitoring portfolio companies;Having acquired a strong analytics and strategy tool kit in strategy consulting, investment banking or a commercial or financial role in techDemonstrable experience leading and coaching junior team members;A strong passion for climate/ deep tech investing and knowledge of the VC ecosystem;Board experience (advantageous, but not crucial).You’ll be a great fit for the team, if you areA grafter who loves getting stuck inA self starter who enjoys exploring opportunities for growth and runs at themMission driven to achieve impact at scaleA team player who wants to be part of a tight and ambitious teamNaturally curious and passionate about the companies we invest in and the ecosystem they operate inPrepared to get involved in every aspect of fund managementAmbitious and takes pride in your workComfortable working in a fast-paced environmentWhy you'll love it hereWondering what the salary for this role is?
