Our client, a respected associate of the UK Ministry of Defence, has partnered with Guidant Global to hire a Human Factors Engineer. This role is crucial for integrating advanced technology seamlessly and ensuring weapon systems are effective, user-friendly, and safe. The Human Factors team assesses user capability throughout the product development cycle, from conceptual design to final delivery.

As a skilled Human Factors Engineer, you'll join a team of experienced Human Factors Engineers acknowledged by the UK MOD for implementing Human Factors Integration. Work with military experts to create a system from ideation to delivery across Land, Air and Sea domains. With ongoing projects in Battlefield, Surface Attack, Deep Strike & Air Defence domains, you will gain valuable experience. As a partner in FCAS AP, our client is at the heart of providing the effects element of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).

What we're looking for:

  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF)
  • User Interface design & use of User Interface prototyping tools such as Axure
  • Implementing Human-Centred Design processes
  • Application of Human Factors Integration & Human Factors Engineering in a Defence context
  • Knowledge of defence standards (00-251)
  • Conducted core HF activities, including task analysis, requirements development, user trials, and experimentation.
  • Application of physical ergonomics and use of CAD software such as Jack or RAMSIS
  • Good understanding of Systems Engineering and disciplines that interact with Human Factors (Supportability, Training, Systems), including definition and verification of HF requirements.
  • MS Office, DOORS
  • Strong planning skills, customer-focused approach, practical communication skills, and the ability to generate technical reports.

What you'll get to do as a Human Factors Engineer:

As a Human Factors Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to influence the development of cutting-edge technologies. You will be responsible for conducting Human Factors Integration throughout the entire development lifecycle, ensuring that the human-machine relationship is optimised. Your duties will include:

  • Developing user interface prototypes.
  • Analysing the role of the operator within the weapon system.
  • Defining human factors requirements.
  • Conducting user experiments and trials.

Additionally, you will be responsible for analysing physical ergonomics, equipment, and their integration into workspaces. The successful candidate will possess exceptional skills in Human Centred Design and be able to provide progressive assurance to the customer as per Def Stan 00-251. Our client has a relationship with the UK military spans back over 70 years. They have delivered countless landmarks in defence engineering, supplying vital defence capability to meet the needs of the armed forces over land, sea, and air.

This role is based at their headquarters in Stevenage which plays a key part in missiles operations. The site also offers excellent transportation links and boasts an onsite gym and coffee shop. Training and development are offered to all employees.
