A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a BSE accredited Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist/Clinical Scientist to join the St George's Hospital Echocardiography Department maternity cover. As a band 7 Cardiac Physiologist you will be expected to independently perform and report standard echocardiograms across a variety of settings (outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, community sites etc.) to local/BSE standards. Teaching will be provided for those unfamiliar with strain or 4D echo. A 15% recruitment and retention premium will be added to your salary in addition to high cost living allowance (HCA). Furthermore, there will be opportunities to participate in weekend waiting list initiative and private work at enhanced rates. We are passionate about supporting the continued professional development and education of our echocardiographers. St. George's Hospital is a tertiary referral centre providing one of the largest specialised cardiology services in London. As a tertiary cardiac centre, we provide echocardiography support to a wide range of specialties including cardiothoracic surgery, coronary and structural intervention, electrophysiology, inherited cardiac conditions and heart failure. Our department has a top-of-the-range, multi-vendor fleet of echocardiography machines all with strain and 4D functionality. Additionally, we have a dedicated echo reporting system with large numbers of reporting stations to help support the workflow of our echocardiographers.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesBand 7 echocardiographers are encouraged to undergo a period of training in at least one of the following specialist areas: Physiologist/Scientist-led Valve Clinics, Stress Echocardiography, Contrast and Bubble Echo, Maternity Echo, CRT clinic or inpatient echo triage. Those with the right level of experience and knowledge in these areas can apply to become a sub-speciality lead, where they will work with the lead echocardiographer to develop the service (writing SOPs, performing audits etc) during dedicated admin sessions. We are a large training department hosting students from the Practitioner, Scientist and Echo Training Programmes. We expect all band 7s to be involved with the training of junior physiologists/doctors, as well as participating in quality assurance, audits and weekly educational meetings. QualificationsEssential
BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent degree. BSE accreditation or equivalent ILS RCCP or HCPC registration
Desirable
MSc in Clinical Physiology or Echocardioraphy. Experience or involvement in research. Training qualification
ExperienceEssential
Echocardiography experience post BSE examination. Experience and knowledge in a wide range of cardiac investigations Experience of training and supervision of junior staff.
