Brook Street Recruitment is working with our client in Carryduff to recruit a Health & Safety Officer
The Health and Safety Officer is an integral part of the team. This role requires an individual to be able to multitask and prioritise work load due to the nature of this busy role. Previous experience in the construction industry would be advantageous. This role will be site based and cover various areas in Northern Ireland.
Main duties include:
Assist with the Continual develop and implement the Health & Safety policy to ensure all working practices are safe.
Carry out risk assessments and reviews, including COSHH and Manual Handling and develop subsequent safe systems of work.
Manage and update a comprehensive training matrix for all employees to ensure identified training needs are met, from induction to fundamental safe working practices to developmental learning.
Assist in the maintenance the company`s OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards, ensuring compliance with the standards and with relevant legislation.
Assist with regular site inspections and audits to monitor compliance with HSE requirements and draw up corrective action plans with area supervisors to address identified non-compliance's.
Organise necessary external inspections e.g. plant insurance policy statutory inspections and surveillance/renewal audits for international standards.
Investigate accidents, near misses and complaints of ill health and complete future preventative actions.
Assist in the monitoring of sub-contractors to ensure compliance with company policy and procedures.
Maintain all necessary records for effective HSE management and complete all aspects of HSE administration.
Respond to employee safety concerns and implement systems for improvements. Consult with employees on health & safety matters with required forums.
Assess new materials to ensure they comply with necessary HSE requirements and ensure all new equipment/ plant is installed correctly and maintenance records are retained.
Monitor and enforce company policies e.g. fire safety, drugs & alcohol, quality, environmental and trackers
Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of HSE regulations and guidance.
Assist in monitoring and compliance of company fleet.
Any other duties, within reason and capability, as agreed with the Health and Safety Manager.
Essential Criteria
NEBOSH Management of Health & Safety Certificate
2+ years equivalent experience in a Health & Safety role
Good working knowledge of HSE legislation
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
Strong negotiating, analytic and problem-solving skills
Proficient in use of MS Office applications
Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player
Desire to own decisions and take responsibility
Willingness to contribute to company improvement projects and business plans
Full, Clean Driving Licence
Willingness to travel as required throughout NI, ROI and UK.
Desirable criteria:
Membership of IOSH
Experience in the engineering industry
CSR Card
First Aid Training
Salary will be based on experience can be confirmed on application - role comes with van and fuel card provided.
