Summary (Major Purpose of the Role):
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with legal guidelines. They conduct training, investigate incidents, and provide recommendations for improvement, aiming to create a safe and compliant workplace environment.
Main Activities/Responsibilities:
Covering UK Manufacturing as Health & Safety Manager
Define and develop the HSE Roadmap for manufacturing which ensures a safe and healthy working environment and culture for all employees.
Part of the Manufacturing senior leadership team
Assist the onsite Managers and Leadership teams in the interpretation and application of health, safety and environmental regulations, policies and procedures through effective communication
Ensure that the HSE management systems are implemented and maintained across the manufacturing footprint.
Be the sponsor and subject matter expert for the UK manufacturing HSE platform.
Lead the interface with applicable government agencies relating to the HSE matters
Identify internal or external non-compliance to regulations or company standards.
Competencies:
Technical Expert: Provide comprehensive H&S technical expertise and be aware of emerging technologies. Recognised as a specialist/expert in the field, with an established external H&S network. Coordinate knowledge sharing with the team.
Member of a professional body – minimum NEBOSH, Tech Iosh – Institute of Occupational Safety and Health working to CMIOSH status.
Give specialised advice: Provides guidance and counsel on complex and unfamiliar situations and leverages other experts to develop solutions.
Risk Management, able to balance cost/effort/benefit against business and legal requirements.
Stakeholder Management: Managing expectations and the level of stakeholder engagement. Ability to manage complex relationships in a variety of business and technical situations. Influence and engage with stakeholders in decisions based on analysis of their needs.
Change Management: Hands on, collaborative and practical approach, able to create and sustain successful and complex business change.
Communication Ability: Able to express ideas, explanations or opinions in a way that is appropriate to the situation, understandable to audience and demonstrating a constructive, assured and non-confrontational manner. Is able to put forward cogent and structured argument to gain buy-in and influence decisions, maintaining composure in doing so.
Presentation skills: Presentation and engagement skills for an appropriate audience, taking complex data and presenting this simply and effectively
Education and Experience:
Must have:
NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)
Qualification or practical experience in multi-site manufacturing environment
Good to have:
NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent
NEBOSH Environmental or equivalent
Proven record of managing contractors
Practical experience of managing health & safety
Fabrication, welding, painting processes knowledge
