HSW Manager A428The A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet is a £750 million improvement scheme commencing main construction towards the latter part of 2022 and with an open to traffic date of 2026. The scheme involves the creation of a new three tier junction at the existing Black Cat roundabout, over 10 miles of new dual carriageway along with 17 structures to be created, one of which is a viaduct over the Great River Ouse. There is interface with services ranging from high pressure gas pipeline to 400 KV overhead lines.This role is part of the Project Senior Leadership Team and presents a fantastic opportunity for an experienced safety professional. The successful candidate will be required to work in a collaborative environment influencing and leading on all aspects of health safety and wellbeing performance.Main Duties & Responsibilities
Ensure that Company and project requirements / KPI’S are being maintained and standards met across the schemeSupport the project/OU in the production, review and implementation of specific plans for managing health, safety and wellbeingManage and support the Project HSW team and provide direction on focus areasEnsure the project is meeting legal HSW compliance as well as expectations from outside bodies i.e., HSEProvide operational and functional management with advice on the prevention of accidents, ill health, and the practical implementation of the company’s SHW policies.Lead on compiling and completion of Client led HSW metrics and quarterly reportingLead when required on entries and closing out of project incidentsParticipation and undertaking of HSW visits with the Project SLTEnsuring and supporting the project management team in compliance / execution of client required HSW standardsDelivery of safety related tender commitments on the projectInvolvement in various working groups both internal and also externalSupporting with the upgrading and production of OWOW processes, procedures and policies for the Highways sectorMaintain the health and safety competency matrix of the scheme.Assist where necessary with tenders and presentations to external bodies.Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents where appropriate.Monitor and coordinate the close out of the above.Assist in the preparation and implementation of SHW training courses and ensure that staff with specific SHW responsibilities have received the appropriate training.Give advice and guidance (where required) to the project team on HSW related mattersSupport and drive project / HSW initiativesMaintain own level of knowledge and competency in relation to SHW management and responsibilities including appropriate qualification and professional membership.Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Minimum 5 years in HSW Management role within construction.CMIOSH Membership or working towards this.NEBOSH diploma or NVQ level 5 or above in Occupational Health & Safety if not obtained working towardsLevel 5 academically recognised qualification or above (i.e. diploma /degree/NVQ) relating to health, safety and wellbeing.Experience in the development and implementation of health, safety and wellbeing strategiesAble to influence others at various levels from the front-line workforce to Director level, both internally and externally.Previous Highways construction environment experience desirableDriving Licence
