Love ManyPets.A day in the lifeYou'll play a key part in shaping our company's success by bringing your expertise, leadership, and innovative thinking to the table. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of our pet insurance portfolio, with a core responsibility to ensure our products and services align with our business objectives.As the leader of a team of three specialists, you will closely monitor portfolio performance and work to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. You will work heavily with the claims team to deliver quality products and outcomes that serve the customers well and ensure fair but effective products, wordings and guides are in place.Your day-to-day will involve engaging with stakeholders, both internal and external, to build resilient relationships and ensure our underwriting policies are consistent and clear. You'll be responsible for maintaining and improving our policy documentation, ensuring it's in plain English and easily understood by customers. Additionally, you'll take the lead in defining our underwriting footprint and ensuring it aligns with our diverse range of insurance products.Your responsibilitiesLead the UW team with an expert, in-depth understanding of portfolio and market performance, customer segments and pet health to drive continuous improvement towards pet health excellence.Leader of our pet health portfolio, ensuring alignment with business objectives and our goals for excellent customer satisfaction.Own the product oversight and governance committees to ensure we are hitting our financial and regulatory objectives in conjunction with insurance carriers.Identify, evaluate, and develop recommendations to improve underwriting processes and procedures.Define our underwriting footprint, ensuring business operates and complies consistently with our different insurance products.Deliver and own our policy documentation making sure that it’s in plain English, clear and concise – so everyone can understand the content.Manage quarterly claim audits, ensuring a strong feedback loop is in place for ongoing improvement and review.Work closely with the pricing and product teams to help deliver the best and most performant products possible for customers.Work with the wider CUO team to deliver optimal UW rules within the Earnix system and collaborate with other trading teams to achieve ongoing targetsEnsure excellent relationships with key external stakeholders for underwriting. Build close and trusted relationships with other key partners outside the business.Compliance and RegulatoryEnsure appropriate underwriting governance and risk controls.Oversee any internal audit processes for underwriting, to provide clear protocols and guidance, plus recommendations for improvement.Management of our regular risk audits. Ensuring all suppliers (external and internal) agree actions, tracking them to completion.Ensuring appropriate provisions are in place that ensure the integrity of compliance, in line with the regulatory requirements.Own product oversight and ensure appropriate product maintenance.Liaising with our internal Compliance team to identify the impact of legal and regulatory changes; planning and implementing any training required.Identifying learning and development needs which ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.Duly authorised approver for all underwriting training material, guides, supplier selection and due diligence audits.LeadershipProvide leadership and guidance that encourages both personal commitment and a high-performing team culture.Help your team to deliver actionable insight across the business, helping us react to ever-changing market conditions.Set individual objectives for your team - carrying out regular performance reviews to manage implement personal development plans.Work with your team to provide regular informative updates to the team which maintain business awareness, performance, and morale.Lead by example and role model our company values - inspiring others to do the same.Collaborate with People and Finance to implement team resource plans, utilisation forecasts, and to recruit and onboard talent within your team.Your skills and experienceYou're an experienced underwriting expert with a demonstrable experience in pet insurance, from within the UK.You'll bring an expert understanding of pet insurance products as well as in-depth expertise on highly competitive B2C insurance environments.You will have an excellent understanding of pet health risk and policies.You will have experience of the regulatory responsibilities of insurance carriers and key obligations that need to be met within a regulated environment.You've managed a team and have experience of coaching and developing others. You're able to direct and help them to maximise their commercial output (and their enjoyment of the role!)You're an active listener with a human-centric, collaborative working style.The interview processThis position has a three-step interview process, which will be held via Zoom. We may need you to sign an NDA as part of the process for this role and we may also ask you to complete a Wisnio online profile, which will enable us to ask you some specific questions about your values and working style.Stage 1 – an informal 45-minute meeting with our People team. We’ll explain more about the role and how your experience matches up with what we need.Stage 2 – you’ll meet our Chief Underwriting Officer. This will be a longer interview up to an hour and we’ll ask you both technical and competency questions.Stage 3 – we’ll share a presentation task with you to present back at the final round. You’ll meet our CUO again and we’ll include up to two senior team members. We expect this meeting to last for 1.5 hours.Ways of workingOn a typical day you’ll be working from a laptop with a screen, mouse, keyboard, and headset. You’ll be meeting your colleagues on Zoom and keeping in touch regularly via email and Slack too – we’d expect you to be using your computer for around seven hours a day. We’d ask that you have a distraction-free work area and a reliable internet connection with a speed of 25Mbps so you can work effectively.
