Fayers Plumbing and Building Suppling Ltd. is an independent family-owned builders’ merchant that has been supplying plumbing, building, heating and sanitaryware products since 1884. We have built a strong reputation for being Respectful, Responsible and Reliable to all our customers, suppliers and staff.

We are looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and commercially minded leader to manage our existing four trade counters and any future outlets. This role will report directly to the Managing Director.

• Annual basic salary up to £45,000 based on experience / £51,750 OTE

Head of Trade Counters Main responsibilities include:

• Accountable for the financial and non-financial performance of four trade counters.


• Supporting and coaching direct reports to take responsibility for their profit and loss account.


• Supporting and coaching direct reports to develop sales strategies to achieve sales & gross profit targets while also improving customer loyalty.


• Continually reviewing and updating pricing strategies to ensure competitiveness and also maximizing margin potential where possible.


• Continually reviewing the stock profile across all trade counters and identifying new opportunities to significantly grow sales and gross profit.


• Protecting and growing the brand awareness of the company in the marketplace through marketing and advertising campaigns.


• Reporting on the progress of implementing new initiatives and the on-going performance against agreed targets.


• Looking to improve the overall merchandising of all outlets to enhance the company brand and improve the customer experience.


• Ensuring that the trade counters operate to the highest Health and Safety Standards and regulations (you will be supported by our head of operations and external HSE advisor).

For this Head of Trade Counters role potential candidates will have:

• A proven track record managing builders’ merchants trade counters with a good knowledge of the building trade and products.


• A proven track record of successfully implementing sales strategies that grow sales and gross profit performance while also finding ways to be more cost efficient to improve the contribution from each trade counter.


• Demonstrated that you can develop and nurture relationships with key suppliers and customers alike.


• Experience dealing with a broad cross section of customer types such as trade, retail, house builders, contractors, local authorities etc.


• Natural leadership skills that your colleagues respect and want to follow.


• The ability to recruit the right people for the right position with the added potential to grow into their next role.


• High proficiency using Microsoft 365 and ERP systems such as Bistrack or similar.
