The SEO team comprises strategic client leads, technical SEO specialists, on-site SEO specialists, Digital PR specialists and SEO analysts who all collaborate on driving effective organic search campaigns for forward-thinking clients in a variety of B2B and B2C industries. About the roleAs Head of Technical SEO within Gravity Global, you’ll lead a growing team of Technical SEO specialists, delivering consultancy and best practice for technical aspects of website optimisation for global enterprise brands. You will have a deep understanding of SEO algorithms and technical SEO best practice, a proven track record of providing SEO recommendations that led to successful client growth, and the ability to lead a global team to achieve ambitious goals and evolve our service offering.
You’ll work closely with colleagues and client stakeholders to analyse, identify and resolve barriers to organic search performance by providing expert advice and recommendations around the areas of search algorithm updates, crawlability & indexation, website architecture, site performance, hreflang and international strategy, algorithmic risk factors and wider SEO best practices.
This role includes responsibility for recruiting skilled personnel and managing the workflow across a growing team of Technical SEO Executives and Managers, implementing training plans, setting and maintaining best practices across the company with regards to organic search, liaising closely with colleagues on SEO strategy for key clients, being involved in new business development and collaborating with internal teams to deliver ROI to clients. You will be passionate about providing the best service possible to clients and ensure that you and your team’s skills and knowledge remains at the cutting edge of SEO. You will project a warm, engaging personality and demonstrate the ability to win over others, whether they are clients, colleagues, or business partners. Key Responsibilities:
Technical SEO Team Leadership
Lead a team of Technical SEO Executives and Managers. Provide guidance,
manage processes, workflows, and resource allocation across your team to
deliver to client campaign objectives, ensuring a high standard of work is
maintained and that SEO efforts are aligned with broader client business
objectives.
Recruitment, Training and Staff
Development
Recruit skilled personnel and implement appropriate training plans to
maintain industry-leading skill sets. Lead annual appraisals for your
reports and make recommendations to the Global Head of SEO on staff
progression and resource requirements.
Innovation and Departmental
Development
Stay informed about industry trends, search engine algorithm updates, and
emerging practices in technical SEO, collaborating with the Global Head of
SEO to identify and implement innovations in service delivery and
processes.
Document technical SEO processes, implementation guidelines and other
departmental resources to ensure consistency and best practices are
maintained.
Technical SEO consultancy
Deliver expert technical SEO insight and recommendations for key global
clients, providing best practice SEO advice to client stakeholders and
working with development teams (client-side, third party or within Gravity
Global) to resolve issues we’ve identified. Provide guidance and support
to developers to ensure that SEO best practices are integrated into
website development processes.
Monitor and Analyse SEO Performance
Utilize SEO tools to monitor website performance and identify areas for
improvement. Analyse data to make informed recommendations and adjustments
to the technical SEO strategy.
Technical SEO Site AuditsPerform technical SEO audits of key client websites to identify and address issues that may affect organic search performance, such as crawlability, indexation, site speed, mobile-friendliness, internationalisation and structured data markup.
Website Migrations
Lead technical SEO efforts during website migrations, redesigns or
platform changes for key clients to minimize the impact on search engine
rankings and traffic. Ensure proper planning, execution and monitoring of
migration processes to preserve SEO equity and avoid disruptions in
organic search performance.
Collaboration with Other TeamsWork closely with SEO content creators, Digital PR, developers, and both agency and client marketing teams to ensure alignment between technical SEO efforts and overall client business goals.
Reporting and CommunicationProvide regular reports on technical SEO performance for key clients, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.Communicate technical SEO strategies and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
Pitching for new businessBe involved in new business development by providing robust, commercially focussed insight, and lead on pitch meetings as required.
Quality AssuranceReview and ensure that technical SEO outputs from your team align with SEO best practices and do not negatively impact other aspects of a client’s website, and that our activity is aligned with the overarching SEO strategy and client’s business objectives. Skill Requirements: Significant proven experience in
technical SEO, with a successful track record of driving organic
growth.
Experience in leading and managing
teams of SEO professionals, with proven people development skills and
ability to manage workloads and resource allocation. In-depth knowledge of technical SEO
principles, best practices and strategies. Deep knowledge of search engine
algorithms, ranking factors and website architecture. Proficiency with SEO tools such as
Google Analytics, Google Search Console, crawling tools e.g.
ScreamingFrog, Deepcrawl, Semrush, Ahrefs etc.
Ability to research, absorb
information from online resources and then identify and implement new
techniques and processes to ensure clients retain and build search
rankings despite search engine algorithm updates.
Ability to prepare and present
compelling technical SEO analysis to client stakeholders.
Commercial acumen, with the ability
to understand and make appropriate decisions around client profitability
and growth opportunities.
Experience with working with project
management tools such as Asana, Jira and writing clear technical
change-requests/briefs.
Strong analytical and problem-solving
skills.
Excellent, persuasive verbal and
written communication skills.
Strong knowledge of web development
languages and frameworks, e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP is beneficial
for understanding website code, communicating with development teams and
implementing technical SEO recommendations effectively.
