Beyond these programmes, our officers may join our Frontline Leadership Programme and be further developed giving them the best possible chance to progress through the policing ranks and have a lifelong connection with us.Our 115-strong not-for-profit organisation aims to create systemic change. We need highly capable impactful staff to support the recruitment and development of our officers and to cultivate strong relationships with partner forces and the wider sector.The purpose of your roleThe Head of Stakeholders and Governance is responsible for our relationship with central government (including all mainstream recognised political parties) and civil society (including charities with related aims, think tanks and mission-aligned businesses), and will work with the Head of Force Partnerships to manage our relationships with local government (including police and crime commissioners), and the Head of Impact and Insights to communicate the achievements of our programme participants and alumni. The post holder will also be responsible for internal governance, working closely with the Executive team to ensure that the board of trustees, its board committees and senior leadership team meetings and related activities are efficient and effective.The core accountabilities of this role are:Build and maintain government, cross-party political and civil society support for Police Now, communicating our impact in policing, communities and more broadly to decision-makers, funders and other interested groups. You will ensure that we have excellent relationships with all mainstream political parties, the Civil Service, police and crime commissioners, think tanks and wider influencers. You will hold some relationships personally and will, where appropriate, leverage the executive team, wider senior leadership team and other colleagues.Lead on the construction and delivery of compelling bids to enable us to advance our mission, for example by funding and launching new and innovative programmes or building non-financial support for new ways to deliver brilliant policing such as recruit entry into key specialisms.Ensure the organisation both possesses and effectively uses critical political and sector intelligence so that organisational decisions are properly informed by the direction and priorities of key influencers in the government, political and civil society space.Oversee organisational governance and lead the executive support function, enabling the board of trustees and senior team to operate at maximum efficiency and effectiveness through productive meetings supported by focused, high-quality meeting packs, recording and data.As a member of the senior leadership team, contribute to strategic decision-making beyond your area of functionalresponsibility and expertise to shape the development of the organisation and our programmes and activities for the future.Key requirementsWe are looking for someone with significant experience of communicating and building genuine relationships with public and private sector organisations including central government departments, political parties, parliamentarians, think tanks and mission-aligned businesses. You will be able to provide specific examples of having generated both financial and non-financial support from these stakeholders for a worthwhile cause.You will need a strong understanding of the UK’s political environment and policing’s place within it, know how public policy decisions are made, and possess both complete integrity and sound knowledge of what is appropriate and inappropriate in the public affairs space. You will understand how to get in front of the right people, at the right time to deliver a compelling message that sticks in the minds of decision makers and gets results. You will possess a strong network already and have the skills required to create fresh connections in this complex and constantly changing environment.You will be resilient and comfortable operating in a sector where priorities change quickly in response to both national and local developments, often requiring high quality work at considerable speed and at inconvenient times. You will be able to make complex decisions with incomplete information and have a keen eye for risk, constantly evaluating results and course correcting if necessary.You don’t necessarily need to be an experienced head of department and could be someone ready to take that next step and willing to get up to speed in a new sector quickly. However, you do need to see and enjoy seeing the bigger picture and joining the dots, and to be ready to throw yourself into the senior leadership space with commitment. It goes without saying that you will be an excellent line manager, capable of setting clear expectations, managing performance and leading and coaching your people to deliver excellence.You will have superb written and verbal communication skills; we expect you to speak authoritatively on behalf of Police Now at sector events and similar engagements.
