Head of Special Projects: MasterplanningEach masterplan will be delivered as a programme of work and involve project teams drawn from departments across IWM working with external consultant professionals. As programme manager you will hold the masterplan vision – the big picture - and ensure that the multiple projects within the programme are planned and managed to professional standards in a coherent way to deliver the best possible outcomes for our audiences. There will be significant stakeholder engagement at senior level, both internally and externally. You will act as Client PM on a range of projects. Your role includes management of project budgets, timelines and risk management.Strategic DeliveryLead the implementation of IWM Masterplanning projects as directed by AD Masterplanning and realisation of benefits in the context of IWM’s overall Mission, Vision, Strategic Objectives and operational strategies.Support the Executive Leadership and Senior Management teams in making strategic decisions and assigning priorities based on Masterplan vision, strategy and outcomes.Provide time-critical strategic responses to any local planning applications.Programme & Project ManagementAdjust the implementation programmes and manage change, to ensure that projects are delivered within the agreed timeframes and budgets while maximising opportunities and minimising risk to the MuseumDevelop sound business cases and project briefs for Masterplan driven projects.Provide a Masterplan voice on large projects and smaller business-as-usual pieces of work through informal discussion and project teams/boards. Provide the long-term and big-picture perspective.Build and motivate cross-department Project Teams to deliver masterplan projects through business-as-usual, corporate planning projects and corporate priority projects.Lead distinct Masterplan Projects as they arise and as directed by AD Masterplanning, acting as Project Manager/ Client Project Manager/ Programme Manager as required. These projects could include, for example, delivery and implementation of Duxford AvTech and IWM Lab (large object storage and conservation facility) at IWM Duxford, development and delivery of Phase 4 of the masterplan for Lambeth Road, development of the next phase of transformation at HMSB, planning for future change at CWR, delivery of the planned IWM Institute Research CentreManage project budgets effectively in line with IWM financial processes. Comply with IWM procurement policies.Manage project risks, issues, actions, and schedules ensuring Boards and Executive Leadership have the best information on which to base decision making. Monitoring and escalating early warning indicators.Stakeholder ManagementAct as account manager, overseeing the operational and strategic relationships with partners for Masterplanning as required. Maintaining a set of procedures to underpin any operational relationships and partnership agreements.With the Heads of Partnerships and Corporate Communications Manager and Stakeholder Relations Manager, oversee and deliver strategic external stakeholder engagement to support the effective delivery of Masterplans.Support AD Masterplanning and Director of Development in managing relationships with funders and strategic supporters of masterplan projects.Proactively build positive relationships with colleagues across the organisation to support collegiate working and integrated delivery of Masterplan projects.General ResponsibilitiesIdentify fundraising opportunities within the masterplan, contribute to fundraising proposals and support the Development team in securing and retaining donorsActively promote and implement IWM’s strategy for widening access, inclusion and diversity, ensuring this is core to the development of all new projects.Ensure projects are brand compliant and maximise income opportunities working closely with the Commercial and Marketing teamsWork actively to reduce the museum’s impact on the environment and implement IWM’s sustainability strategy, ensuring all projects consider their contribution to this.Follow and encourage an entrepreneurial approach, proactively seeking and actioning ideas which help IWM achieve its overall purpose, objectives, strategy and visionTo keep up to date with changing technology to assist more efficient and effective workingProduce clear briefs, commission and manage high quality architecture/design, project management and construction contracts, ensuring compliance for any works covered by CDM, Fire and other regulations, working closely with our Procurement and Estates departments.Be security conscious, ensure familiarity and co-operation with all museum security proceduresEnsure familiarity with all of the Museum's health and safety policies and procedures and their application to the development of all projects.Prepare and present effective and appropriate reports on complex and diverse issues to the Executive Leadership Team and Senior Management Team and to aid decision-making and performance monitoringEnsure projects received documented approval at appropriate stages as relevant by the Project Board, Programme Board, Masterplanning Board and the Board of TrusteesFor a full list of duties and the person specification (which your application will be marked against) please view the Job Description.National Museum Directors' Council, Tate Britain, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG.
