Role overview: The Head of Sales, Public Sector will be responsible for managing the Public Sector Business Unit commercial team selling a portfolio of public sector engagement products across the Total Politics brand. This role will require a deep understanding of the public sector landscape, developing and implementing a sales strategy for the sales team, working closely with senior management, content and delivery teams to deliver increased growth across media and event offerings whilst meeting and exceeding the portfolio sales targets.
Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Strategy:
Develop and successfully execute a comprehensive sales strategy for the Public Sector Business Unit, aligning with overall company objectives and achieving Business Unit goals;
Provide leadership to the sales team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring sales targets are met and exceeded;
Support the Director of Public Sector Engagement as a member of the Business Unit Management Team, including supporting the development and delivery of the Unit's business strategy;
Work closely and positively with other members of the Business Unit management team, including the Head of Events and the Unit Editorial lead, on product development, client handling and service delivery to ensure high standards, excellent client satisfaction and repeat business;
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sales efforts with marketing, content, and publishing operations.
2. Sales Team Management:
Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing sales team focused on selling advertising and content campaigns across public sector media titles and events;
Set clear sales targets, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback to ensure individual and team goals are achieved;
Provide prompt and clear reporting to the BU Director, BU Management team and the group on financial performance metrics as required;
Foster a collaborative and positive team environment, encouraging creativity and innovative sales approaches.
3. Client Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions to help them engage our public sector audiences;
Work closely with the team and with Marketing to identify new business opportunities and expand existing accounts;
Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by delivering and exceeding client expectations.
4. Revenue Generation:
Drive revenue growth by achieving and exceeding sales targets for advertising and content campaigns across public sector media titles;
Develop and implement pricing strategies, negotiate contracts, and manage the overall sales pipeline;
Explore and secure sponsorship opportunities for events, ensuring alignment with client objectives and brand messaging;
Work closely with colleagues in Events, Editorial, Publishing Operations and elsewhere to establish and maintain costs and protect margins.
5. Market Intelligence and Product Development:
Lead the ideation, development, and launch of new products within the public sector business unit;
Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and changes in the public sector landscape;
Utilise market intelligence to identify new business opportunities, refine sales strategies, and stay ahead.
