The Opportunity

The Head of Projects position is a new, critical role that would suit an experienced management level candidate looking for exposure to complex technical challenges, commercial negotiation and people management.

This is a new position for this successful engineering business that is seeking someone to provide additional coordination within the Projects department and pull everything together in an accountable approach.

You will need to be able to demonstrate several core traits that include excellent people and process management, and an ability to lead and take accountability for a team overseeing multimillion pound projects.

A sign of success will be an ongoing demonstration of projects of varying complexity being delivered on time, within scope and under budgets.

Role Overview

Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders.
Allocate resources effectively across projects.
Collaborate with HR to recruit, on-board, and manage project staff.
Provide guidance and support to project teams.
Develop project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
Coordinate with project managers to ensure alignment of project and company objectives.
Monitor project progress across the department.
Support pricing of contracts and input into the tender process.
Undertake contract reviews.
Lead on contract negotiations with Customers & suppliers.
Conduct regular project reviews within the department to identify areas for improvement.
Ensure that Gate Reviews are conducted & signed-off.
Review financial reports, forecasts, and profitability analysis.
Monitor project costs against budgets and ensure cost control measures are in place.
Implement risk management plans and monitor risk triggers throughout the project lifecycle.

Background

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration
Significant experience in project/programme management within the oil and gas industry
Professional qualification in project management (Desirable)
Commercial prowess with contracts and Terms.
Engineering background – ideally heavy industry (Rotating equipment)
Proven Management Experience. – Running a Department.

Due to the nature of the role and clients you will be exposed to, there will be a requirement for global travel.
