An exciting opportunity has arisen at award-winning independent publisher Atlantic for a full-time Head of Production.
The successful candidate will run Atlantic’s Production Department, managing one Senior Controller and ensuring that our books meet targets of budget, quality and schedule. The role will involve regular liaison with internal departments, external suppliers and printers, and will see you directly involved in sending titles to press and compiling estimates. You will be responsible for negotiating agreements with suppliers, ensuring the best possible prices and service for Atlantic. You will also have the opportunity to enhance and improve processes and workflows, and to spearhead Atlantic’s Sustainability policies.
Reporting to our Director of Pre-Press, the role will involve you working across a broad range of predominantly mono hardback and paperback titles covering a wide variety of genres, from prizewinning literary fiction and bestselling commercial fiction, to both narrative and practical non-fiction. Some colour work is also part of the job, predominantly on the Murdoch UK list. Finally, you will be running Atlantic’s Production Services, working with small publishers without in-house production and currently servicing two small presses.
Requirements:
We’re looking for an experienced production professional with a proven track record in trade publishing. Essential to the role are:
Immaculate knowledge and execution of production processes, both mono & colour.
Confidence in working and negotiating with printers and suppliers.
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
Creativity in coming up with solutions to solve problems and reduce costs.
Capacity to build strong relationships, both internally and externally.
Atlantic incorporates the Atlantic Fiction, Atlantic Non-Fiction, Corvus, Allen & Unwin, and Grove Press UK lists, which together publish a broad range of literary & commercial fiction and non-fiction. Murdoch Books specialize in food & drink and lifestyle publishing, as well as a small children’s list. Both are members of the Independent Alliance of publishers.
We operate core hours of 10am-4pm, with currently a minimum of two days a week in the office. Flexible working around these parameters can be discussed in the interview process.
Benefits to working at Atlantic include the following:
Access to our Employee Assistance Programme
a minimum of 23 days’ holiday per year excluding bank holidays, rising to 25 after two years;
two volunteer days a year;
cycle to work scheme;
free eye tests and flu vaccinations;
company pension scheme and life insurance;
the option to apply for private health insurance;
mentoring and network opportunities within the Independent Alliance.
We offer equal opportunities regardless of gender, race, faith, socio-economic background, age, disability, sexual orientation and national origin, and by doing so, aim to reflect the world around us. Please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments during the interview process.
