Job Title - Head of Production

Salary - £50,000 - £60,000 per annum (Plus Bonus)

Location - Outskirts of Cardiff

Contract - Fulltime, Permanent Position

Hours - 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday

The Role


  • To lead employee safety and product safety to remain OSHA free.
  • To achieve machine productivity and quality targets.
  • To optimise & improve the site & supporting systems in order to improve process efficiency & safety, optimising product quality and reducing the cost of manufacturing.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Head of Production


  • Lead a team of multiple Shift Managers, fostering a safe and collaborative work environment.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations (OSHA) and quality standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process optimisations.
  • Analyse data to identify and troubleshoot production issues, optimising product quality and reducing costs.
  • Manage budgets and participate in capital expenditure planning.
  • Oversee training and development of Shift Managers, focusing on communication and leadership skills.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal departments (QA, Product Development) and external suppliers.
  • Has responsibility for safety/quality/delivery/cost of production as set out in budgets and KPI's.
  • Active support of the QA manager for the management and investigation of claims.

Education/Experience of the Head of Production


  • In-depth knowledge of heavy production (both theory and practice).
  • Proven track record of leading and motivating teams in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of safety, quality, and production systems.
  • Experience of shift allocation and management.
  • Experience with CI techniques, root cause analysis, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Budgetary control experience with a keen eye for cost-efficiency.
  • Minimum 5 GCSEs grade C or above.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent (ideal).
  • Ideally ILM Level 4 or above in Leadership & Management.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring teams.
  • Experience of working with Unions.
