Job Description
As the Head of Jewellery Design you will bring to life, through jewelry collections, the creative vision as set in the brand platform and led by the CEO.
You will drive product design for Fine Jewellery and High Jewellery, as well as Solitaires and Classics, ensuring aesthetics are aligned with the universe, codes, and personality synonymous with the brand.
Drawing upon your exceptional design expertise and technical knowledge, you will inspire and mentor a team of talented designers, fostering a culture of creativity, excellence, and collaboration.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to shape the future of luxury jewellery design within one of the world's most esteemed brands.
You may be asked to support creative collaborations.
Creative and Design Development
Lead the jewellery design for De Beers Jewellers, aligning with the brand portfolio and values, market trends, and consumer preferences.
According to the Product Marketing brief, conceptualize and develop innovative and captivating jewellery collections, ranging from high jewellery pieces to everyday wear, while maintaining the brand's distinct identity.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product development, marketing, and markets Managing Directors and teams to ensure design concepts translate seamlessly into commercially viable products.
Work in-conjunction with the Product Marketing team to ensure brief translates creatively in order to commence design
Propose ideas and concepts for additional lines in accordance with the strategy defined by the Product Marketing team
Create inspirational mood boards for the selected jewellery themes
Create Concepts enriched with brand storytelling
Produce inspirational, illustrative sketches and artwork to enhance the designs
Produce style variations for each jewellery piece to review with Product Marketing
Finalise selected proposals with technical drawings in 3-D views
Adapt design, if needed, in order to meet with development and marketing objectives to ensure product is commercial and meets recommended pricing structures
Present final designs to CEO, DBJ, CMO, DBJ and Product Marketing Director DBJ for validation
Collaborate with the product development team in prototyping phase to adapt design if required
Review and approve all jewellery prototypes in-line with design brief
In collaboration with the product development team, carry out visits to workshops and production sites to ensure design consistency and accurate interpretation
Work closely with the diamond sourcing teams to select and source the highest quality diamonds and materials.
Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and design innovations, incorporating relevant insights into the development of new collections and designs.
Build relationships internationally with key members of the management committee and ensure that product strategy is always at the forefront of any key business decision
Support with potential external, high profile collaborations, if and when needed
Special Orders
Meet with the client, if and when required, to finalise exact brief
Liaise with store and special request team to meet agreed deadlines
Produce final design proposals (including technical drawings) to discuss with the client and Brand Ambassadors
Creative Consultations
Collaborate, support, and guide the business on all visual aspects of the brand and execution when required
Provide creative/design direction for internal/external business needs where required
Provide creative direction for marketing briefs, review and approve proposals from an aesthetic and creative standpoint
Collaborate with PR in regards to promotion of the brand; international press presentations, VIP events, worldwide press interviews for magazines and television if and when required
Design Studio Management
Provide artistic guidance and mentorship to the design team, nurturing their talent and fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and continuous learning.
Effectively manage the product design team to achieve design briefs within allocated budgets
Effectively manage studio team members to achieve all design projects
Effectively allocated and manage outsourced projects if and when needed
Work closely with the CMO, DBJ, Product Marketing Director, Head of Manufacturing & Sourcing, the Product Development team and the market MDs to ensure effective interdepartmental communication and relationships
Manage the studio to encourage efficiency of working practice by setting and reviewing processes and procedures. Streamline methodologies for optimum efficiency
Update and oversee the effective implementation of a logical and accurate studio archive system
Commission creative artworks on ad hoc basis
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the design department, optimizing processes, workflows, and tools to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications
Qualifications in Jewellery Design
Extensive experience min as an in-house jewellery designer, preferably at a fine/high jewellery brand
Expertise in high jewellery design
Technical knowledge on fine and high jewellery manufacturing required
Diamond knowledge/ diamond education
Ability to problem solve with information at their disposal
Understands own role in relation to the team and how it contributes
Design portfolio demonstrating creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation across a range of jewellery styles and categories.
In-depth knowledge of jewellery materials, gemstones, and manufacturing techniques, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
Passion for luxury fashion and jewellery, with a deep understanding of industry trends, consumer preferences, and market dynamics.
Proficiency in design software such as CAD, Rhino, or Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of designers to achieve excellence and exceed expectations.
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
