East West Railway Company (that’s us) was created by the Department for Transport (DfT) to oversee the delivery of East West Rail from construction through to wheels in motion, making sure the railway comes together in the right way.
Role Summary:The Head of Planning and Scheduling’s role is to provide and coordinate all project planning support across EWR and to deploy sufficient resources across the company to meet its planning and scheduling needs. The Head of Planning and Scheduling will be accountable for maintaining a baseline schedule for the enterprise and programme and that all project activities are aligned with this plan.
This role is the Head of Planning and Scheduling Professional Home and will be responsible for the line management of its direct reports, these responsibilities include performance, development, welfare, and pastoral care.
Team dimensions:East West Rail operates a matrix structure.
This role sits within the Programme and Project Community and is the Head of the Planning and Scheduling Professional Home.Line Manager – Programme Delivery Director (Executive Team member).Functions reporting into this role – Planning and SchedulingKey Responsibilities
Planning and developing integrated schedules from first principles,
Deploying and managing planning and scheduling resources throughout the business,
Establishing a work breakdown structure based upon the integrated baseline schedule,
Maintaining relevant processes and procedures for project planning and scheduling,
Analysis and scenario planning to evaluate alternative scopes and timelines for the programme,
Ensuring the adequacy of construction planning capabilities in the team,
Responsible for maintaining the L0 & L1 end to end plan and integration with L2,
Check and ensure accuracy and schedule robustness,
Ensuring that activities are logically sequenced and linked,
Providing appropriate governance and change control for the baseline schedule.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Experience of planning for a major project(s)
Experience of managing people and key stakeholders
Extensive experience of schedule management on major capital projects and/or large programmes of similar complexity.
Expert knowledge of control tools and methodologies such as Primavera P6, critical-path analysis, earned value analysis, and Monte Carlo analysis
Technical understanding of design and construction
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Knowledge of contemporary planning techniques such as CPA/time chainage etc.
Broad knowledge of Engineering & Construction methodology
Basic knowledge of integrating the plan within a 4D BIM environment
Understanding the need for fully integrated schedules and reports
Education and qualifications:
Project Planning Practitioner (PPP)
Degree or equivalent in project management or engineering
