Your new role Head of Performance Assurance and Business Services Part of the regional leadership team you will provide strategic direction to a wide range of colleagues to deliver against our business objectives. The Head of Performance Assurance and Business Services leads an effective programme management office, performance and quality assurance, and efficient business support services for the region, championing continuous improvement and sharing best practice with other relevant functions throughout the organisation. *This role requires UK Security Vetting/National Security Vetting check. Location: Wakefield, Leeds or Darlington with regional and some national travel
What you’ll be leading on
To develop and lead an effective regional programme management office, providing correct governance and control to the regional delivery programmes, ensuring correct milestones, budgets and outputs are met. Ensuring annual plans, budgets and performance reports are created and submitted in line with expected standards, quality, and timescales. Lead the regions Quality Performance Assurance team to deliver a robust programme of audits, ensuring required actions are completed and support the management of a regional suite of contracts in line with correct contractual principles. Ensuring that regional teams understand and fully comply with agreed Operations and wider business quality management systems and governance arrangements.
Lead the regions business support services, delivering high-quality support for the region’s needs whilst driving resource efficiencies. Ensuring all customer, stakeholder and programme delivery related administrative services are delivered in a timely and professional manner. Examples of services include management of customer correspondence, traffic orders, operational fleet processes. . As a member of the leadership team, contribute to the ongoing development of the commercial and strategic imperatives for the region, ensuring it continues to deliver high quality services that meet business and customer expectations. Including, tracking, monitoring, and assuring in-year delivery against planned budgets to timescales and quality. To lead the timely gathering of regional performance related information as well as the creation and distribution of regular performance reports to the relevant stakeholder groups. Champion a culture of continuous improvement across the region by ensuring that performance feedback, continuous improvement opportunities and lessons learned are captured, owned, tracked, and monitored through to delivery.
To be successful you’ll need
Demonstrable ability to lead, engage and inspire diverse teams to a shared vision and ways of working. Proven programme and portfolio management background, ideally with experience of running a Programme/Project Management Office within a large portfolio of projects Excellent understanding of Quality Management Processes, governance structures and quality measurement requirements Ability to create and embed new ways of working to drive business improvement, managing change across a breadth of teams and stakeholders. Demonstrable experience in developing and managing annual financial and resource plans, with proven commercial and financial acumen. Effective stakeholder management skills, including the ability to create, develop and embed strong relationships.
This role requires UK Security Vetting/National Security Vetting check. A bit about us Operations is at the heart of keeping the strategic road network moving and ensuring our customers get the best possible experience when using our roads. We address over 39,000 customer enquiries every month, plan and deliver all maintenance activities on the network, drive efficiencies and improvements across our systems and roads, and respond to incidents across 4,500 miles of motorways and major A-roads that we manage. All to make sure National Highways customers have safer, smoother, and more reliable journeys. With a directorate of around 3,500 colleagues, Operations covers a breadth of areas at a regional and national scale. On the frontline, our traffic officers and inspectors patrol the strategic road network 24/7 to keep customers safe. They’re supported by colleagues in our regional operations centres and customer contact centre who manage customer reports, set signs and signals, and alert customers to hazards on the road to help keep everyone safe. Our work though goes beyond operating, maintaining and improving roads. We work collaboratively with colleagues across the business to support enhancements to our network and the systems behind it.
