We are a multi site Trust with 2 obstetric lead units and a stand alone midwifery unit as well as our community midwifery teams. The Head of Midwifery is a key senior leadership post within our midwifery service on our sites to ensure maternity services deliver high quality safe care for our population. The individual will work as part of the operational quadrumvirate for the service. The Head of Midwifery will hold professional accountability and managerial responsibility, on behalf of the Director of Midwifery Nurse for the strategic direction, delivery and management of the midwifery service and the subsequent achievement of corporate and divisional key performance indicatorsMain duties of the jobThe Head of Midwifery will ensure that supervision of midwifery is provided to agreed standards fostering a culture that values respect, teamwork and excellence in all aspects of the delivery of patient care The Head of Midwifery will ensure there is provision of professional and supervisory leadership to all registered midwifery and staff within the Care Group, across hospital and community settings The Head of Midwifery will be responsible for assuring professional standards and practice in all aspects of midwifery care are achieved within the Trust, including adhering to statutory regulations to deliver excellent patient care working collaboratively across the different sites. The Head of Midwifery is accountable for the delivery of midwifery services within their allocated site. This includes fiscal responsibility for the midwifery budgetAbout usWe operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Masters degree or equivalent experience. Evidence of maintaining relevant Continuing Professional Development. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Recent Senior Line Management experience. Recent experience of managing other clinical services. Proven ability to manage resources effectively. Recent detailed understanding of the operation of acute hospital services and the interface/cross over with community services. Evidence of highly developed written and oral communication skills in English in a variety of settings. Recent Experience of successfully managing change within a large complex organisation. Team working across an MDT Performance Management and development of staff. Evidence of commitment, motivation and adaptability. Experience in Project management techniques and application. Recent proven ability to develop teams and maintain constructive working arrangements at all levels and with all disciplines. Understanding of information and communication technology systems and application. Well developed financial management skills. Ability to think quickly, assess complex managerial/clinical situations and make decisions upon that information. Highly developed communication skills including liasing effectively with teams/individuals within and outside the organisation.
