Global Sports is proudly partnering exclusively with the English Football League (EFL) in the search for their new Head of Media and Corporate Communications.
In this exciting role, you'll lead a fantastic team within the EFL’s Media and Corporate Communications Team, collaborating closely with the Chief Communications Officer.
Your mission: bring the EFL's narrative to life and boost the organisation's profile through engaging media activities. While your team primarily operates from the EFL’s Preston office, we're looking for someone able to travel to their London office once a week.
What you'll be doing:
Develop and execute an annual media and communications plan aligned with the EFL's strategic goals.
Inspire creativity in your team with exciting campaign and task briefs, ensuring the EFL message remains central.
Take the initiative by placing compelling stories across diverse media outlets, showcasing the incredible work of the EFL.
Conduct goal-oriented team meetings, with regular reporting to track and celebrate progress.
Represent the EFL Communications Team at stakeholder level when needed.
Showcase your project management skills as you navigate and deliver various projects, liaising with internal and external resources.
Play a key role in developing an internal narrative and delivering resonant messages.
Oversee the team responsible for crafting all EFL publications, from the Handbook to Final programmes, and internal documents and policies.
Collaborate closely with the EFL Content Team to spread the message through our owned media channels.
Provide cover, guidance, and advice to the Chief Communications Officer for a consistent and timely response to both internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have:
Proven success in senior media or communications roles, with experience managing dynamic teams.
A deep understanding of the media industry, coupled with experience in public affairs.
Essential experience in crisis communications – you are the calm in the storm.
A track record of building trusted relationships with sporting and media stakeholders.
The ability to inspire your team and deliver outstanding results.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the knack for influencing individuals and decision-makers at all levels.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Proven expertise in effective communication planning and bringing media plans to life.
The skills for building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
The strategic mindset to plan and report alongside your exceptional execution.
