About the role
Tesco Online is the biggest online grocer in the UK and one of the largest in the world, recently reaching over £6 billion. Digital growth is core to Tesco’s future strategy and this role will be pivotal in defining and leading a key emerging element of that plan, a new marketplace connecting Tesco customers to a larger range of new and exciting products.
The role has exposure to senior stakeholders and would suit someone who is comfortable working collaboratively and cross functionally to define, build, then lead a complex business.
You will be responsible for
In this job, I am accountable for:
Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence and have these specific risk responsibilities:
- Defining the 3-5 year ambitions and direction for the marketplace, including partnering with the Product and UX teams to define the end-to-end customer experience.
- Working with Insight and Commercial teams to define our third-party range expansion priorities in line with Online and Category team strategies.
- Leading the definition of a commercial and legal framework for third-party merchants to sell directly to customers via the Tesco.com website.
- Managing a seller recruitment team; responsible for contacting, negotiating contracts, and supporting the product integration, of a wide range of third-party merchants.
- Working with Quality and risk management teams to define the standards that we will expect our merchant partners to adhere to, and establishing the SLAs and KPIs that we will use to monitor and audit their performance.
- Leading a team of trading and taxonomy managers to ensure the marketplace product selection is discoverable and relevantly promoted to customers to drive sales.
- Leading an online operations team responsible for ensuring the seller content and product information is complete and of high quality, enabling these items to be easily ingested and displayed on the Tesco.com website.
- Transition from ‘build’ into ‘run’ mode at launch to oversee the ongoing expansion and development of the marketplace within Tesco.com
You will need
Operational skills relevant for this job:
- Understanding of online business models and economics.
- Strong strategy development as well as analytical skills
- Ability to bridge between strategic thinking and pragmatic implementation
- Strong project and stakeholder management skills
- Good commercial acumen and understanding
- Strong communication and storytelling skills
- Ability to influence at all levels
- Broad stakeholder management, including executive levels
- Business development and negotiation with commercial partners
Experience relevant for this job:
- Team management and development, ideally of a multi-function team
- Record of effective planning and delivery of cross-functional initiatives
- Demonstrated leadership of an ecommerce, marketplace, or major digital initiative
- Ideally experience in at least two areas of digital development, seller or vendor commercial relationships, ecommerce trading and operations
