We promote a community culture where prisoners will be able to assist the management team to establish projects, processes and forums that meet the needs of the population.We try to recognise the skills, talents and abilities of the prisoners and empower those who can lead by example and inspire others to change their mind-set.About the RoleWe are now looking for a Head of Learning and Skills to join our team at HMP Five Wells.In this critical role, you will be the strategic lead for the provision of Learning and Skills to prisoners at HMP Five Wells.Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:Leading the strategic and operational planning process for Learning and Skills activities throughout the establishment in order to promote the vision of the prison as a secure learning centrePromoting, planning and co-ordinating all learning and skills activity in order to provide a comprehensive and coherent learning and skills programme for all residents including needs analysis and curriculum reviews.Manage and provide professional advice about the contract for education and training within the establishment to ensure that contractual standards are achieved.Lead on the annual learning and skills quality assurance cycle to ensure that quality standards are achieved, particularly in relation to Ofsted frameworks and HMIP Inspections.Ensuring management information systems are in place to record accurately all required data relating to learning and skills provision so that outcomes can be assessedManage and provide professional advice about staff development and training for learning and skills staff within the establishment so that the required standards are met.Advise on budgets for education and training providing to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.Liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure the sharing of best practice and continuous improvement in the educational service providedEnsure that learning and skills activities are planned to ensure the best possible outcomes for residents on release, including effective IAG, employability and pre-release programmesEnsure that learning and skills are integrated into the sentence planning and offender management processes in order to support the effective transition from custody to the community for residents.Lead in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for your role.The Ideal Candidate:About youYou will hold a professional teaching qualification and have substantial experience of contract management and managing a team within an Educational setting, ideally within a secure environment but this is not essential.You should be a dynamic and engaging individual, who shares our ethics and values. You will have the ability to build rapport and influence key stakeholders and have a high degree of self-awareness.It is key that you are flexible and adaptable to deal with ever-changing scenarios and as an experienced leader, it is essential that you have experience of working within a multifunctional and demanding environment.This is an opportunity to make a real difference.
