Salary : c £40,000-45,000 DOE
Location : Based at Dynamic Earth, with flexibility for home working, in line with job requirements.
Hours : Full Time (37.5hrs/week), permanent. Ad-hoc evening and weekend work.
Reports to : Science Learning and Engagement Director
Role Summary:
Dynamic Earth has a ten-year strategy, From Beginning to Mend, launched in 2023 that places sustainability as the central theme for future science engagement. The Charity is committed to helping people engage with a holistic view of the Earth’s system, understand human impacts on the environment and see themselves as part of a sustainable future for us and our planet. We are keen to foster the problem-solvers of tomorrow by enhancing science capital across all our audiences and by promoting STEM-related education and careers.
Key Results Areas:
Strategy and culture : you will play a senior role in delivering Dynamic Earth’s 10-year strategy and support the development of a culture of science and learning engagement that extends across relevant front-facing teams. You will also play an active role in our Extended Leadership Team – building new ideas and better connectivity between function heads and their departments.
School Engagement and Practitioner CLPL:
you will lead development and delivery of a multi-year strategy to engage schools with respect to national educational priorities. You will also provide CLPL for teachers that will enhance the quality of science learning in various educational settings.
Community Engagement:
you will ensure we are achieving our ambition of reaching more people in more ways by creating a clear strategy and delivery plan to engage meaningfully and effectively with underrepresented groups.
Families and Public Programme:
you will develop and oversee effective programming for diverse audience groups that works in partnership with stakeholders and delivers an exciting year-round offer for family and public audiences in our centre and outdoors.
Planetarium Programmes:
you will develop and oversee effective programming for diverse audience groups for our on-site and mobile planetariums.
Outreach:
you will take the lead on ensuring that Dynamic Earth fulfils its ambition to provide a continuous Scotland-wide engagement experience that includes in-person and remote learning opportunities for school and family audiences.
Reporting and evaluation:
you will lead on effective reporting of engagement outcomes from all the programmes you oversee. This will include identifying compelling case studies for testimonials and communications activity.
Manage team & budget:
you will manage the Learning & Engagement management team to ensure there are clear annual objectives, regular reviews and training plans in place. You will also co-manage the development of the annual budget and spend that is in line with agreed parameters for each activity area with the Science Learning and Engagement Director.
Skills Knowledge and Attributes:
Educated to degree level, preferably in Earth and environmental science or a related discipline.
Experience of managing delivery of a range of informal STEM learning activities in a range of formats which support both science learning and commercial outcomes.
Strong working knowledge of the needs of audiences i.e. teachers, learners, community audiences, families in a variety of science learning contexts, adults and young people.
Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant local and national policies and priorities.
Experience of project management and partnership working.
Strong experience of managing and supporting staff and/or volunteers.
Able to work to deadlines and under time pressures.
Ability to manage a varied and complex workload and be able to problem solve.
Knowledge of risk assessment and health and safety processes.
Awareness and experience of developing and implementing evaluation methodologies and frameworks.
A pro-active, warm, enthusiastic and friendly disposition with the ability to build rapport with people quickly.
An enabling and pro-active attitude and commitment to a culture of continuous improvement.

An enabling approach to problem solving.
A reflective practitioner with the ability to reflect both on self and situation.
