HEAD OF HISTORY
Pay Range: Teachers Main/Upper Pay Scale + TLR 2B
Actual Salary from: £30,000 - £46,525 (M1 – U3) + TLR 2B (£5,354)
Start Date: 1st September 2024
The Role
We are looking to appoint an outstanding and inspirational Head of History to monitor and maintain high standards of student attainment and progress within the subject area of History and to monitor and support student achievement.
We believe that every child matters and by working collaboratively we can transform lives and Build Bright Futures. Paxman Academy opened to Year 7 students in September 2019 and is a co-educational, fully comprehensive 11-16 Academy with a PAN of 180. We are a heavily oversubscribed school which is held in high regard in the community. Our recent Ofsted inspection (Feb 24) rated our school as Good.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Be accountable for student progress and development within the department.
Be innovative in your own teaching and to develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
To ensure the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high-quality and cost-effective curriculum programme which complements the School Improvement Plan/School Evaluation.
To keep up-to-date with national developments in subject areas and teaching practice and methodology.
Ensure continuity and progression by supporting colleagues in choosing the appropriate sequence of teaching and teaching methods and setting clear learning objectives through an agreed scheme of work, developed in line with the School Improvement Plan.
Lead the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work and teaching and learning strategies in the department which reflect the school’s commitment to high achievement through effective teaching and learning.

Paxman Academy has a research-informed CPD training programme that allows our staff to flourish and in addition a bespoke programme for ECTs. In addition to internal CPD, staff have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the Sigma Trust to share resources, ideas and build collaborative relationships.
