Are you ready to lead and drive forward the Highways and Transport department to support the strategic goals of our organization? We are seeking a talented and experienced Head of Highways & Transport to join our team. In this role, you will be pivotal in shaping the future of transportation infrastructure in our community, ensuring the smooth operation of our road networks and promoting sustainable transport solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and plan the Highways and Transport department to align with corporate priorities and outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver highways capital programs and major projects, ensuring sound financial management and adherence to agreed outcomes.
  • Provide visible and engaging leadership, fostering a culture of effective performance and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders, including local authorities and governing bodies.
  • Deliver high standards of customer service and community liaison, engaging positively with residents, elected Members, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage large revenue and staff budgets, as well as locally funded capital investment programs.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory duties and obligations related to highways, traffic, and street authority.
  • Act as a deputy to the Corporate Director for Inclusive Economy and Sustainability, providing strategic leadership to the Directorate.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and expertise, undertaking continuous professional development for yourself and the team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven ability in successful change management, financial management, and project delivery.
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and developing staff to achieve organizational aims.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body such as ICE, CIHT, or IHE.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, with relevant experience at a senior management level.
  • Demonstrated track record in contract management and major scheme delivery.
  • Resilient and positive attitude with drive and commitment.
