We provide advice and guidance on health, safety and welfare issues across the council, safeguarding our diverse workforce, communities and others we work with to deliver our services.In this strategic management position, you will report directly to the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development and be a part of the HR Leadership Team and the council’s Leadership Network. Due to the importance of health and safety within our organisation, this role also has direct access to the Chief Executive.For an informal discussion, please contact Janice Percy, ##### or07795 336383.Closing date for applications is midnight on 10 June 2024.Technical and panel interview for shortlisted candidates are planned for early July 2024.About the roleAs the Head of Health and Safety, you will:champion health and safety across the organisation and with our internal and external partners across the cityprovide expert knowledge, skills and interventions to influence, challenge and support the achievement of a positive health & safety cultureensure delivery of the H&S advisory service to a wide range of services from schools to social care, from parks to seafront and outdoor events, from housing to contractors and building complianceAct as the competent person for the council as required by the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999Be the main contact for H&S Regulatory authoritiesmanage and lead our team of H&S professionals and fire specialistsTo deliver this, in the post-Grenfell context and in an organisation with new leadership and a varied risk profile across our multiple services, we are looking for someone who:- can advise leaders accordingly knowing how to work collaboratively and when to challenge- has strong leadership skills and the ability to embody our leadership behaviours of being ambitious with their work, true to their word and emotionally intelligent- can manage your team in a fair and inclusive way to ensure they are all able to thrive in our organisation- has a track record in organising health and safety in a multi-faceted environment.You will have:- health and safety technical knowledge to Nebosh diploma level or equivalent,- communication and people skills and the vision to embed health and safety as part of BHCC’s culture.Brighton & Hove is a great place to live, learn, work and visit. Team and service working arrangements are designed to support both employee work life balance and team collaboration. These would be part of your individual working arrangements alongside any personal preference agreed with your manager in advance of joining.
