The College aims to stimulate a love of learning and intellectual curiosity while championing academic rigor, professional expertise and freedom of expression.Gresham College has been providing free lectures within the City of London for over 400 years. Lectures are attended by in-person audiences and are live-streamed around the world.The College is now in year four of an exciting five-year plan which has the aim of increasing and broadening the audience that the College reaches. Each year, we provide public lectures by leading academics and experts for thousands of people in London and millions online.Offering top-level education to the public for free is something we intend to continue doing and alongside Gresham’s two founding sponsors, the Mercers’ Company and the City of London Corporation, we will continue to seek opportunities to engage with our valued audience members and supporters — and find ways to generate income that will ensure more people can benefit from the outstanding education Gresham offers.About the role.Historically funded almost exclusively by its founding sponsors, the Corporation of London and the Mercers Company, in 2021, Gresham College recruited our first dedicated income generation role.Our track record of success since this appointment has shown that there is tremendous potential in diversifying the College’s income.As we continue to build on the successes achieved over the last 3 years, Gresham College is seeking a new Head of Fundraising and Engagement, who will be responsible for driving income generation for the College and for engaging our audiences through traditional and digital means.Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be a key member of the College senior leadership team, playing an important role in helping the organisation progress towards its strategic objectives of building audiences and diversifying income while delivering the very best academic learning to the general public.The Head of Fundraising and Engagement will play the central role in continuing to draw new forms of income to support the College’s educational mission, which will include leading on a portfolio of income-generating activities including individual giving and legacies, corporate sponsorship, events, trusts and foundations, business development, venue hire and collaborative partnerships.You will build on the success of the 6.5 million annual views of our YouTube channel to generate income from small donations and memberships, as well as play the lead role in growing relationships with high-net-worth individuals and corporations.As Head, you will have responsibility for the College’s wider profile and engagement, in owned, earned and paid-for media, including traditional and digital channels. This activity will aim to support both the mission of the charity in reaching audiences as well as provide key tools for income generation.You will be responsible for brand management and development, including management of the College’s online and PR presence to grow our profile and reputation.This role offers the opportunity to work with a range of stakeholders, including the Provost and other senior managers, and you will be expected to contribute to the College’s Council and sub-committees to report on income generation activities.The Head of Fundraising and Engagement will line manage a team of four staff, including a Website and Communications Manager, PR Coordinator, Events and Office Administrator and Content Curator.Gresham College staff are expected to work on site for a minimum of three days per week and flexible working arrangements will be agreed in advance with the line manager.‘The College aims to stimulate a love of learning and intellectual curiosity and to champion academic rigor, professional expertise and freedom of expression.’Who we are looking for.We are seeking candidates with a demonstratable track record of success in raising income in a charity environment, alongside knowledge of the requirements of the fundraising regulator and best practice in the sector.You will bring experience of working across a range of income generation areas and activities, including membership, HNWIs, corporate, and trusts and foundations. It is essential candidates demonstrate their ability to identify, build and maintain strong donor, sponsor and supporter relationships. You should also be familiar with managing engagement and communications programmes, particularly through digital means.We expect applicants to have experience of managing fundraising CRMs and be proficient in using MS Office applications.Candidates should bring experience of managing individuals or teams focused on income generation within a relevant setting and be able to demonstrate the impact of their leadership through the achievement of successful income generation activities.You must demonstrate your ability to organise time effectively, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and multitask with ease.Candidates should be able to operate at a senior level and bring experience of collaborating with colleagues in strategy making.Gresham College encourages applications from those of diverse backgrounds who meet the role specification brief.
