Head of Engineering

Role: Head of Engineering / Product Lead
Salary: £70,000 - £75,000 approx (depending on skills and experience)
Location: Dundee (Onsite 3 days per week)
My client is looking for a Head of Engineering Product Lead. The role involves taking small physical products to market in the electronics and mechanical sector, particularly in a harsh environment. Responsibilities include dealing with manufacturers, understanding the manufacturing process, and ensuring quality standards. Field experience with product engineering is advantageous as the role may involve re-engineering products, conducting root cause analysis, and DFMA.
Role Description and Purpose
The Head of Product plays a critical role in delivering an innovation pipeline, managing a team to develop new propositions for smart farming and processing operations. Current propositions in development include a biomass camera, sea-lice treatment system, seal detection camera, novel pump, and waterjet bleeder. The role involves overseeing activities from market verification to manufacturing specification, requiring expertise in software, electronics, mechanical, and power engineering.
Responsibilities of the Role:
Provide leadership to the product team and supply chain partners
Support skill development and knowledge transfer within the team
Manage 3rd party manufacturing relationships for quality and timely delivery
Liaise with marketing to understand customer requirements
Deliver next-generation propositions and transfer designs to manufacturing
Define budgets, maintain regulatory compliance, and promote health and safety
Set OKRs, report progress to COO, and contribute to business direction
Experience & Skills:
Requirements include a relevant engineering degree, experience in delivering value propositions, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Leadership, planning, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential.
