Head of Engineering Starting salary £120,000We are currently recruiting for a Head of Engineering to be a part of on our innovative and forward-thinking journey!Aviva Zero is both a new-to-market carbon-conscious motor insurance product, and a new independent technology platform in its own right. We've combined a brand new serverless, API-driven platform together with advanced data and machine learning capabilities to establish a next-gen capability that we enable a rapid acceleration in Aviva's sustainability agenda and growth objectives. If you have a hands-on background in Software Engineering and/or DevOps and can provide the knowledge, experience, and mentorship to help build and guide a newly formed Engineering team, then we absolutely want to hear from you! A bit about the job: We have an integrated, focused operating model to allow us to make good decisions and execute them at pace. Our newly created in-house Engineering function will ensure we continue to build out a fit-for-purpose, scalable, and secure technology platform, and this role sits as an integral part of the Technical Leadership Team.As the Head of Engineering, you will lead major technical change initiatives for the Aviva Zero product roadmap, improvement in the engineering target operating model and ensures appropriate execution of our architecture principles and engineering excellence strategy.
Skills and experience we're looking for:
Solid experience as a full-stack lead engineer, ideally experienced in building consumer facing products based on microservice architecture principles
Strong working knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD best practices, with experience in long-term platform level technology strategy and planning
Exemplary technical leadership, with experience translating product strategy into fit-for-purpose solution designs and engineering approaches
Confident mentor and confident in leading cross-functional change initiatives, and a natural mentor to junior engineers
Technologically adept and demonstrates outstanding ability to provide both hands-on technical execution and guidance to others, and confident leading strategic direction decisions at an architectural level
Versatile with multiple delivery methodologies, with strong cross-functional technical stakeholder management capabilities; able to balance desired pace of change with technical risk considerations

Starting salary £120,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
Bonus opportunity - 25% of annual salary Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva's.
