Zedify is on a mission to transform urban logistics and create cleaner, healthier, more liveable cities that are better for everyone. We’re building a system for deliveries that is fit for the future and better in all ways; zero emission by default (no offsetting here), intuitive & flexible (a great customer experience) and better for people (no gig economy for us). Having recently secured further investment we are going through a period of significant growth and are now looking for a Head of Engineering to lead our engineering function and play a key role in further building out our software platform.
What we’re looking for…
We’re looking for someone who is a people-focused and compassionate leader and can mentor our existing engineering team, grow the team further and create a strong engineering culture within the business. We also need someone who is technically competent and happy to have a hands-on role in the immediate term. Someone who will roll up their sleeves, cooperate and respond to any engineering tasks that need tackling, but who is always mindful of longer term strategy and the importance of building a scalable and robust platform which is fit for the future.
What you’ll be doing…
Creating and owning deliverable timelines for the development and deployment of all engineering work.
Overseeing the daily engineering operation and assisting with refining development efforts.
Managing the engineering team, coaching and growing individuals and completing performance reviews.
Contributing to the technology deliverables as a hands-on Leader, troubleshooting and guiding the team.
Creating and implementing engineering practices and processes for engineering efficiency.
Setting a vision, strategy and roadmap for the use of technology at Zedify, working closely with the CTO and Head of Product to incorporate the Product Roadmap.
Developing and monitoring the Engineering OKRs and budgets to assess technological performance.
Identifying competitive advantages and technological trends that are driven by data which benefit the company.
Interfacing with 3rd party providers to own IT compliance requirements and GDPR regulations.
Defining and presenting the engineering vision and performance to the CEO, exec team, wider business and board of directors.
What skills and experience you’ll need…
Strong technical competence in: Java, Spring, SQL, GCP and Terraform.
Proven experience: Managing, nurturing and growing engineering teams, with strong interpersonal skills.
Tenacity: We are looking for people who are resilient and excited by change!
Ownership: We need someone who takes the initiative to fix problems and move forward fast.
Impactful: Someone who understands and shares our company mission and prioritises work to drive towards it.
Detail oriented: We need people who have the ability to assimilate evidence from multiple sources, understand it and make critical decisions quickly and effectively.
Growth mindset: We are still working on ways to make our systems, processes, and software better. We are looking for someone who will work together with us on this journey, leading by example, influencing our direction and encouraging others to follow.
A degree in Computer Science of similar (preferably to MSc level)
Passion for technology: Someone who keeps up with advancements in technology, such as AI, and is reviewing how these could be advantageous to the business.
Any experience working in the logistics sector would be desirable but not essential.
