It is now expanding rapidly due to the growth of the Lithium-ion battery sector and has an excellent reputation for reliability and providing high quality products.As Head of UK Engineering, you will be the company's engineering expert and will create a 'world-class' engineering vision, strategy and team.Reporting to Global Head of Operations & Engineering, you will also be responsible for evaluating the engineering challenges faced by the company and proposing appropriate strategies to deal with these challenges.To work closely with Operations and Process Improvement team to understand production requirements and improvement possibilities to ensure that all plants are working at the highest efficiency and reliability possible, with preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance.To be involved in the new plant and engineering projects providing your expertise throughout projects from the concept stage to commissioning and beyond.Interact with internal and external partners to secure the execution of the projects.Key Tasks
* Create and implement best practice and 'world-class' engineering, strategy, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance ensuring the business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets are met.
* Work with the senior team to develop a long-term investment strategy and opportunities for plant expansion and improvement, preparing proposals for capital and operational expenditure to maintain or improve safety, capacity, efficiency, quality, reliability, new equipment or environmental impact.
* Systematic evaluation of the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities.
* Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process.
* Drive improvements and cost effectiveness through analytical problem solving, root cause analysis, and risk and failure analysis.
* Responsible for the execution of the project in three dimensions; quality, schedule and cost.
* Use in-house resources, external contractors, and service engineers to optimise the availability of safe, effective plant equipment through an appropriate mix of preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance.
* Promote and build a collaborative cross-functional work environment.
* Provide technical support to the business and onsite engineering teams.
* Ensure a high quality and up to date documentation of the equipment's and assets.
* Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure high reliability and availability of the production assets at good cost.
* Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
* Review team capacity, capability, and succession plans, identifying training needs, identifying additional skills training as required, adjusting resources accordingly.
* Control and monitor the overall engineering budget and schedules to ensure the company targets and underlying strategy are met.Knowledge, experience & skills
* Educated to degree level (preferably Masters) in a relevant engineering discipline - ideally Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical & Controls or Process disciplines.
* Experience of developing group wide / multi-site maintenance strategies including maintenance reporting systems (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
* Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems.
* Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development.
* Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers.
* Strong and confident negotiator with the ability to negotiate at all levels.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines.
* Commercially and financially astute with experience of managing budgets.
* A qualification in Lean Manufacturing or similar equivalent qualifications combined with experience of CI tools and techniques such as Value Stream Mapping, Six Sigma, 5S, Standard Work, 5S, Kaizen Visual Management, or WCM would be advantageous
