The Company:
We're working with an education company that supports over 100,000 students. After a large private equity injection, they are looking to deeply embed generative AI into every aspect of their teaching to ensure beneficial student outcomes.
Who We Are Looking For:
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Head of Engineering is responsible for overseeing and managing the engineering teams within the synthetic teaching cluster. This cluster is responsible for developing Generative AI products that support a student's educational journey.
Engineering Leadership and Strategy:
Work closely with the Director of Product to craft the engineering strategy for your tribe, ensuring it aligns with the broader technology and business goals.
Collaborate with squad leaders to implement the engineering roadmap, ensuring that each service or product's architecture contributes to our unified vision.
Set the technical direction and roadmap for the company alongside the Director of Engineering and other key leaders.
Foster a culture of technical excellence, pushing for innovation and ongoing enhancement.
Offer mentorship to Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and Individual Contributors to bolster their professional growth.
Team and Talent Management:
Lead and manage a dedicated team of engineers, providing them with direction, coaching, and mentorship.
Encourage a team culture that values collaboration and inclusivity, promoting effective communication and knowledge sharing.
Work with Talent Acquisition to bring in and welcome outstanding engineering talent, addressing the tribe's evolving needs.
Pinpoint skills gaps within your teams, coordinating with managers to fill these gaps through training and other resources.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Ensure tight cooperation with the Director of Product to harmonize engineering and product strategies, critical for delivering incredible software.
Engage with Product Owners to grasp and prioritize software development tasks, guaranteeing efficient use of engineering resources.
Liaise with leaders and stakeholders across tribes to tackle engineering challenges and seize opportunities collaboratively.
Delivery and Execution:
Guarantee your engineering teams deliver on business commitments within set timelines and quality expectations.
Advocate for Agile and Lean methodologies, emphasizing incremental development and continuous deployment.
Keep an eye on key performance metrics, ready to address any issues that arise.
Your Experience:
You have:
Built and deployed commercial products using Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Neural Network concepts.
Several years of experience in shaping and leading large software development teams, focusing on delivering complex software projects.
Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role, managing and mentoring engineering managers and individual contributors.
Strong technical background and deep understanding of software development methodologies, processes, and best practices.
Experience in implementing and driving Agile methodologies within engineering teams.
Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, effectively interacting with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Results-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality software products on time and within budget.
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
Required Tech Stack:
Experience with Generative AI (such as OpenAI or Anthropic), Python
Nice to Have:
TypeScript, Vue 2/3, Kafka, Nest.js (Node), AWS
