Head of Design Menswear - 6mnth FTC
Dates: 23rd Sept – 28th March
REPORTS TO: Buying Director
Role Summary
Responsible for strategically leading and guiding the Menswear Design team to create innovative, trend-focused, and commercially viable designs for the Urban Outfitters customer, this position oversees all product departments and serves as a key interface across creative platforms within the business.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Leading, inspiring, and managing a design team of varying levels; monitoring progress and developing the team by providing clear design and strategic direction.
Guiding all departments in identifying trends in line with Urban Outfitters' handwriting.
Working closely with both the design team and the buying teams on color palettes, prints, and trends for the coming seasons.
Collaborating with the design and buying teams to define the collections and produce them to reflect the Urban Outfitters concept while ensuring a good balance of innovation and commerciality.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborating with product and planning teams to ensure that the Menswear design team accurately follows the critical path and calendar timelines.
Facilitating the seasonal development calendar.
Organizing and overseeing concept meetings with the team.
Overseeing ranges across the UK and Europe as well as our online offerings.
Supervising designs for all phases and seasons, providing direction to senior and junior designers.
Planning ranges for all collections, presenting ranges for sign-off and adjustments.
Keeping abreast of current season sales and creating commercial fast-react products in season to meet demands.
Monitoring collaborations with external brands and overseeing projects from concept to product.
What You’ll Need:
A proven knowledge of men’s multi-product design.
An ability to maintain a brands identity and keep up to date with current trends.
Technical knowledge of product, raw materials, manufacturing techniques, and processes.
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to manage Designers in a positive and strategic way, while nurturing creativity at all levels
Strong understanding of the Urban Outfitters customer aesthetic and product.
