Legal Risk and Compliance (LRC) partners with the business, providing specialised legal, commercial and risk management support to enable confident growth. Everything from shaping and negotiating client and supplier contracts, to strategic partnerships, geographical expansion, insurance and company secretarial, restructuring, support for our corporate team (Baringa Enablement), to enterprise risk management.In response to our growth, Baringa is looking to attract a high-calibre Head of Compliance to work strategically with the General Counsel, across LRC, Baringa Enablement and the business as a whole.
This role can be based in Birmingham or London on a hybrid office/home basis.
What will you be doing? This role will report into the General Counsel, working closely with the LRC and Baringa Enablement teams and wider firm leadership. Baringa is growing internationally and needs someone who can help evolve Baringa’s Compliance framework globally.The Head of Compliance is a key leadership role, responsible for the development, management and maintenance of the Baringa Compliance framework and programs and for embedding a mature compliance culture, policies, standards, training, and controls. The Head of Compliance will lead and help develop the Baringa Compliance team working in collaboration with the General Counsel and others across LRC and Business Enablement.Key areasAs Baringa scales, and moves into new locations and practice areas, its compliance needs are changing. This role will involve:Managing the design and implementation of a plan to evolve Baringa’s Compliance Framework (e.g. leadership, risk assessments, standards and controls, training and awareness, monitoring, audit and response).Building out the Baringa Compliance team and Compliance programs to meet Baringa’s fast-paced entrepreneurial culture.Leading analysis of compliance issues and responses to legal and compliance risks and issues, with other LRC and Baringa Enablement leadership.Leading the selection and implementation of technology to support and enable Baringa’s Compliance Framework and programs.Developing and supporting a team of juniors.This is a critical role on the LRC leadership team, working directly with partners and senior leadership across the firm, and coordinating with others across Baringa Enablement (People, Finance, Data, IT, and others). Your skills and experience At least 8 years of professional experience in compliance, legal or risk management experience.Experience or knowledge of working within a partnership structure, ideally in a professional services context.In-depth experience in Compliance, ideally in building out and implementing technology-enabled compliance frameworks and programs.You will have a commercial mindset and strong business acumen as well as advanced analytical, stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the confidence to challenge, where necessary.Self-starter who is able to think fast, move swiftly and act decisively. An ability to be agile and flexible in a fast-paced environment and support the growth of the business by balancing legal matters with commercial outcomes.Proactive and collaborative leader with demonstrated expertise in developing potential in others and commitment to a team-based approach; demonstrated ability to work autonomously; demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, judgment and confidentiality where necessary.Creative thinker with a "can-do" philosophy (as opposed to applying "black letter" legal analysis) with a focus on looking beyond the obvious and developing solutions.Ability to bring a global mindset and approach, with prior experience of having operated in an international environment.Comfortable and experienced in working within a smaller business and can be hands on.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both verbal and written.Performance-orientated, results driven, forward thinking and innovative.Attention to detail without losing the big picture focus.High energy and drive, with a down to earth approach.Unquestioned ethics and integrity.
