About the roleWe have an exciting opportunity to appoint an exceptional Head of Academic Music, starting in September 2024.
The Head of Academic Music is a full-time member of the Music Department and will be expected to play a full part in the life of the College as a whole. They will be influential in inspiring and developing our pupils and leading the academic programme under the overall direction of the Director of Music.
The Head of Academic Music reports to the Director of Music who has overall responsibility for music in the College. They will join a large and thriving department of seven other music staff, two administrative staff and 50+ visiting music teachers.Academic Music is a popular subject within a school which enjoys high-level instrumental playing and an enjoyment of singing amongst the pupils. Current academic music numbers are very healthy; 19 pupils are currently undertaking A-level, with almost 60 pupils undertaking IGCSE, and with over half the Year 9 cohort selecting Music.
About Winchester CollegeThe school was founded by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester, in 1382. Winchester College is a boarding and day school of over 700 pupils.
