Head Herdsperson – Daventry, Northamptonshire We are a successful multi-site, grazing-based dairy business with three units across Northamptonshire and Warwickshire.This role will be working on Chapel Farm, which consists of 300 Freisan, cross-bred grazing cows over 400 acres.With a 24/48 Herringbone parlour and well-developed infrastructure of tracks and grazing platform. The milk is supplied on an Arla contract and calving is completed in the autumn, with all our data and records kept using Uniform and Cow Manager.Each farm is run independently with close collaboration, building a powerful culture based on high animal welfare, excellent working conditions and consistent investment in our staff.Your Role...As a Head Herdsperson, you will work closely with the Farm Manager to deliver our key targets for milk production, animal health and staff development.Other roles and responsibilities will include...Milking to a high and consistent standard. Reporting any observations to the Farm Manager.Daily management of the herd, ensuring animal health & welfare is the top prioritySupporting with dry cow management, calving cows, and colostrum protocols.Liaising with vets and nutritionists for the farm.Grass Management, grass measuring weekly and input into Agrinet software.Keeping basic records and compliance up to date.Ensuring the overall farm is kept tidy and safe to operate.Farm machinery and general farm maintenance.A full UK driving license and proof of UK right to work is required for this role.You...You’ll currently have experience in dairy farming and looking to work for a business that appreciates and rewards your efforts and supports your continued professional development.AI & Foot Trimming qualifications would be preferred but we can send you on the required courses if necessary.You will ideally be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge of grass-based dairy cow management. Strong people management skills are just as important as your technical experience and skills, alongside your values and behaviors.
