The successful candidate will join our client's UK L-Band Centre of Excellence, developing
high-quality electronics hardware for their L-Band Terminal portfolio. Reporting to the
Engineering Manager, they'll design and develop digital and analogue hardware modules,
ensuring adherence to cost, schedule, and quality standards. Working collaboratively with
cross-functional teams across UK and South Korea, they'll oversee the entire product
lifecycle, driving continuous improvement and ensuring designs meet performance
requirements before transitioning to mass production. Responsibilities include customer
needs analysis, systems engineering, design, testing, quality assurance, and production
transfer.
Core Competencies:
Technical Responsibilities:
• Designing and documenting analogue and digital hardware solutions that
meet requirements, size constraints, manufacturing cost, EMI/EMC
compliance, and manufacturability.
• Taking complete ownership of the development process from concept to
board, through to mass production transfer, including analysis of customer
specifications, subsystem and detailed design, design integration and
qualification, and monitoring the design into production.
• Applying excellent knowledge of trade-offs involved in developing hardware
for small and lightweight products.
• Building, testing, and verifying performance of designs using various
methods including benchtop measurements and integrated system testing.
• Applying in-depth knowledge of best practices and engineering judgment to
make design decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in
electronic hardware development, manufacturing, technology, or
engineering.
• Researching new and novel design solutions that provide desired or
improved performance within the constraints of overall product
requirements.
• Understanding the mechanical structure impact on board design and
EMI/EMC and collaborating with other engineers to resolve technical
conflicts and trade-offs.
• Utilizing a comprehensive understanding of Satellite Communication
Terminals and Radio systems to ensure complete system requirements are
met.
• Developing clear and detailed documentation and presenting work to
stakeholders as required.
• Supporting all documentation and testing required for regulatory approvals,
certification, and qualification of the products.
• Collaborating closely with the Korea HQ team to support QA and production
of the design.
The Hardware Engineer will:
• Develop high-performance, reusable analogue and digital hardware
modules in L-Band for our range of satellite user terminals.
• Be involved in the entire product lifecycle, refining product
specifications, producing innovative designs, estimating
complexity/work, troubleshooting issues, and engaging with a
multidisciplinary team.
• Work closely with the systems team on defining performance
requirements.
• Provide training and technical support as required to other team
members.
• Work within an enthusiastic multidisciplinary engineering team to
expand and enhance competence.
Experience - Mandatory:
• 5+ years of proven engineering experience in a digital and analogue
hardware development environment.
• Electronics hardware design (analogue, digital, and power supplies),
development, testing, and integration following industry best practices.
• Experience designing for EMI/EMC requirements and debugging related
issues.
• Experience with large, complex designs requiring multi-layer PCBs and PCB
stackup design.
• Excellent knowledge of Microprocessors, programmable devices, FPGA,
memory devices, and power supply units.
• Developing design documentation such as specifications, design reports,
electrical schematic diagrams, PCB project files, development test
plans/reports, and bill of materials.
• Preparing prototype (analogue/digital) equipment designs, sourcing
parts/materials, assembling, integrating, and testing against engineering
specifications.
• Excellent design, debugging, failure analysis, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent ability to clearly articulate problems and solutions to both
technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in prototyping, design for manufacturing, design for cost, hands
on hardware system rework and modifications, digital test and
measurement equipment, and design robustness analysis.
Experience - Desirable:
• Prior experience in satellite/terrestrial communications terminal design.
• Providing technical input and assisting with the development of system-level
architectures.
• Experience with Iridium, Inmarsat, and/or Thuraya terminal developments.
• Experience with RF test and measurement equipment.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or master's degree in electronic/electrical engineering or a similar
discipline.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence
and negotiate with stakeholders across the business.
