Job title:
Group Financial Director
Location:
London Office
Reports to:
Chief Operating Officer
Salary:
Competitive and dependent on experience
The Company
The Fine Art Group is an independent, global team of art advisors and art finance experts committed to supporting clients at every level of market activity across our three core pillars; art advisory, art finance and art investment.
The Group is developing an ambitious growth strategy and has plans to become the premier global art advisory business developing organically and through acquisition.
The Role
We are looking for a candidate who will fully integrate themselves into our business. The focus of the role will be taking ownership of the finance function and monitoring the Group’s finances, but we will expect you to bring ideas for improvements and to identify opportunities for financial analysis to support and direct the strategic growth plans of the business. This is a senior role; you will report directly to the COO and will assist in reporting directly to the Board on finance matters.
You will be responsible for controlling and managing all aspects of the finance function, including:
· Preparation of monthly consolidated group management accounts (encompassing approximately 5 active subsidiaries) for the board and shareholders
· Preparation of financial forecasting and cash flow for the board, for the Group and its joint ventures. Developing reporting tools and analysis to support this.
· Developing and implementing robust but efficient procedures and controls for all finance team workstreams
· Liaison with external advisers for:
o Preparation of annual UK financial statements
o Preparation and submission of corporation tax returns for UK and US companies
o Local corporate, income and sales tax returns where required
· Oversight of the preparation and submission of UK VAT returns
· Financial oversight of the group’s existing and future investment fund activities
· Review and oversight of financial statements prepared by external service providers for offshore group companies, group investment fund activities and joint ventures
· Managing and mentoring 3-4 finance team members
· Overseeing cost control and risk management, including FX policy
The Person
You will be a fully qualified ACA or ACCA accountant with experience in senior stakeholder engagement. You will have excellent organisational, communication and people skills and will not be afraid of using your own initiative. The role will require the ability to work flexibly as part of a relatively small and entrepreneurial team and will require sound judgement, professionalism and discretion.
No art/art market experience is required but development of sector knowledge once in post is essential.
Experience of fund management or asset management would be highly beneficial, but a desire and aptitude to apply existing skills in new circumstances would be equally desirable.
The role is based in our London offices and applicants must have an existing right to work in the U.K.
Skills
Familiarity with FRS102 and IFRS
Strong working knowledge of V.A.T. and corporation tax
Comprehensive working knowledge of SAGE 50 Accounts and other accounting packages
Excellent Microsoft office suite skills especially Excel (Pivot, lookups etc.) essential. Familiarity with Excel modelling beneficial.
